Depart at 0730 from our hotel to Maeklong railway market was greeted by surprise road closure when our van was approaching the town and we were wondering whether a protest was taking place here and our driver make a detour .We ended parking our van 500 metre away from the market and were lucky to witness a mass dieties celebration procession by the local Thai people of the town.As we were walking along the road, some shops were offering prayer table with foods and fruits to the various dieties as they pass along the road and we were even lucky to see firecrackers being fired in such a big bang which had been banned many years ago in Singapore.
Our driver direct us to an ideal spot for the train sighting and the train finally arrived around 1010 for tourist witnessing the magic moment of disappearing stalls and restoration of the stalls after the train had passed.
We even took photo with theThai people who are dress in various traditional Chinese costume from the procession and the beating of the drum and gong as they move along.
What a lucky occasion to witness to 2 sighting at Maeklong Railway market for 8 of us.

We planned a trip to this place via Mama Tour (apparently this tour agency is quite popular amongst tourists who travel to Bangkok).
The tour covers Maeklong Railway Market and then Damnoen Floating Market.
Both these places were quite a distance away from the heart of Bangkok (approx 2 hours drive in a coach that carried about 10 persons).

The visit to the market was quite a good experience, in my opinion. Hardly will we witness a train "running over" the vegetables, fruits and meat that is sold on the mats at the market. We were so close to the train as it passed by that friend actually could touch the train! Good place for photo taking too if you like to snap photos that can depict the culture and essence of Thailand.

Good and worth going for the first time albeit the place being a bit far from the city.

An interesting traditional market on railway track with hidden shops and nice food stores around. Although hot in the day, its definitely worth the visit.

Well it just a typical wet market i must say BUT the railway itself make it so unique ! I waited for 11.30 train departure but the time i arrived at 10.15 they said the train will depart at 10.30. Lucky me, no need to wait for so long. You just need to be at the perfect location to get the perfect shot. The train was so close along the market, incredible ! Songtheaw also just nearby if want to go somewhere else.

Mmm... how do i review this attraction? It is something really special... one of its kind... yet when i was there, it didn't feel extraordinary. We took a tour of Maeklong Market + Amphawa Floating Market and started journey from Bangkok at about 1pm. We were stucked at some traffic jams in Bkk and the minivan driver was driving like a mad F1 driver on the highway, all just to reach there before the train arrives. It was such a scary experience! Once there, we crossed a row of shops and voila... we were standing at the railway... and 5 mins later, everyone was busy snapping away... and after 2 mins the train was gone, no more commotion. And everything was back in business.

Not really worth the journey, IMHO.
