“Val T stay in April”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

We stayed for a long weekend at the start of April. The hotel were very fast to respond to my email queries before the holiday. We arrived very late at night (1.30am) but reception very speedily unpacked our car, took us an our bags to the room, and then parked the car for us. They also unpacked our skis from the car and put them in the ski room so they were ready for us the next day.
During our stay we had breakfast at the hotel. This was very luxurious and nice, however, the bacon was quite often under cooked, we're not fans of 'rare' bacon! Everything else was delicious though.
We didn't eat or drink at the hotel because it was too expensive (£15 for a gin and tonic!!!) and the buffet dinner was 60 euros per person not including drinks.
The hotel is at the very top of the town it is seriously handy for ski in ski out (might be bit challenging at the start/eng of the season for beginners though as it's quite narrow).
It is about ten mins walk to the centre of VT where there are loads of lovely (reasonably priced!) restaurants.
We left the hotel very early in the morning but the hotel kindly brought the car out and packed our skis for us.
The rooms were stunning, especially the bathrooms however
- our apple air didn't work for all functions
- the wet room bathroom gets everythint wet but the underfloor heating dries it off fairly fast!
Overall a lovely hotel, worth the expense for the location, breakfast and the lovely rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in a NW facing room but this still had a mountain view, albeit also a view of some air flu...

This hotels looks very good in the photos but in reality is very disappointing. Badly detailed and designed rooms which are very small. The hotel is quite remote from Val Thorens but does have a good shuttle service with very capable and helpful staff. The bar is very expensive compared to the rest of val thorens and lacks vibe and atmosphere compared to other similar 5 star brands in the town.
The Spa is very good and would recommend.

Room Tip: Best to avoid this hotel altogether if you like a shower! There is no stand up shower even in the ba...

We booked our apartment before the Residence was officially opened, unfortunately that was a mistake on our part. The photos used by Ski Independence were, we subsequently discovered, of the hotel not the residence. It's intention maybe 5* but we could only give it 3 due to the fact that it clearly wasn't finished and the apartments were very small. whilst I agree with many of the comments made by another of the reviewers I differ on the service front;Audrey and her team were amazing and were clearly having to deal with many inherited issues. We broke our stay early to avoid the horrendous traffic but were very grateful that Audrey and her Director spent time with us discussing our observations.

The apartments are great, well equipped with a super swimming pool, a great aspect at the top of the hill and next to the main feeder slopes. They are not inexpensive yet you could be forgiven for feeling like a poor cousin of the hotel guests when refused ready use of the hotel minibus, which then passes you on the steep and often treacherous hill sometimes laden down with shopping, kids or ski equipment (we belatedly discovered that Sherpa Supermarket will deliver). On top of that having provided a 500 EUR credit card deposit, you are then asked for a 15 EUR deposit for each swimming pool towel, 30 EUR per week for towelling robes and 59 EUR for superfast broadband.

Staff were very pleasant but sometimes curiously inflexible by having to follow orders. The Hotel restaurant is not open to the apartments. The Brasserie was too expensive and upmarket for family meals with bottles of wine 50 EUR plus. However, lots of good restaurants and activities down in town.

If they sort out the peripheral issues have no doubt that the place will merit 5-stars. If not, make sure you negotiate the extras and minibus before booking.

We had 3 nights here and loved it. Glamorous yet cosy, super comfy bedrooms and small enough to feel personal. Hotel arranged taxi collection, skis were ready and welcome was warm. We had half board and really enjoyed the food, particularly in the gourmet restaurant. Cocktails by the fire after skiing, perfect.

Had a family vacation for 1 week in Koh I Nor at the end of February 2014. And what a vacation it was!
Rooms are amazing. The view from the room to the valley is beautiful. Best staff with great service.
Ski-room and ski-shop is very clean, very organized. The hotel is a ski-in ski-out resort which made our ski experience very pleasant. Breakfast was very good and to conclude, we will miss this hotel!
Thanks for a dream vacation!

We stayed in the hotel (not the Residences) in February 2014. It is a very good hotel. The rooms are spacious, well fitted out, comfortable and quiet. The spa is lovely and the restaurant was good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and you felt they wanted to do all they could to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. A few minor downsides:
- it is quite a walk from the village centre, particularly walking back uphill. There is a free hotel shuttle so this is not a major obstacle
- although you can ski in and out straight to the ski room the access trail could be improved & better marked. It is easy to miss.
- an oddity is that you have to walk through the reception lobby to get to the spa. Having guests walking through the lobby wearing bathrobes and with dripping swimwear is a strange design feature!
- wine with your meal is grossly overpriced (55 euros for a bottle of local Savoie wine and 23 euros for a glass of champagne is excessive).
These points did not seriously detract from our stay and overall we very much enjoyed it and we will return.
