Les Olympiades
Ranked #27 of 29 Hotels in Val Thorens
Reviewed January 19, 2014

The reviews below don't particularly make any sense as you're saying you got great value and everything you needed in relation to the price you paid, yet rating 1/2/3 stars? Hmmm. Anyway..

We stayed here in January 2014 for a week and in honesty this is a brilliant option for anyone going on a snow sports holiday and needing a cheap place to stay. Sure, this isn't the Hilton by any means, but as long as you book with managed expectations then you will have no problems.

Firstly the hotel is in a great location, right in the middle of Val Thorens (which is in one of the best ski locations in the world - The Three Valleys). You can technically ski in, ski out, but it's easier to walk the 100m to the main piste with your ski's/board.

There was plenty of hot water, all day, every day whilst we were there which is something not even most 5* hotels can say! Shower was decent and also had a bath if you should choose.

Rooms were quite small but had plenty of space for hanging clothes etc, and also a fold-away dining table.

Kitchen has a microwave, two hob rings and plates, cutlery etc.

Reception was generally closed, but there is a lobby where free wi-fi is available. There is a few takeaways and a supermarket just next door. It is also just a few minutes walk to the main strip where the majority of nightclubs/bars are.

The only bad things are that the room was slightly unclean - the carpets were scuffed, walls a little untidy, etc. Secondly, the walls and floors seem to be very thin, so I can imagine that if you get unlucky and have a loud/partying neighbour then it could be difficult to sleep.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay, and you probably will too as long as you book with managed expectations.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back will be quieter as facing away from main strip (request this at reception). Also...

Iv never wrote any reviews Good or bad before but this place was not good so had to tell ppl!!!!! Was told well equipped kitchenette to us that means kettle but no how silly of us to think that!!! You travelled for 5 hours + including flight ya get to room and just wanna pop to toilet hell no you have to go to shop first to purchase toilet roll not 1 roll as complementary!!! Then if you do sit down and not realise no soap!! Very noisy from other guests very thin walls!! 4 adults in apt we had 1 bedroom so one couple slept on sofa with pull out so that's there bed and then no where to sit except 4 wooden uncomfortable stools! But if you don't put 4 in room get penalised with under occupancy fee!!! 2 single pieces of foam in bedroom on a dbl bed frame instead of dbl matress!!! The sheets supplied were all singles and not enough but when we made beds and realised reception was closed as not 24 hours barely 12 hours but our rep sorted that for us!!!! If you want noisy dirty but warm and close to slopes then book away!!! We paid approx £1000 total for accom after flights and stuff taken off price!! Defo not worth it!!!! They mention free wifi in reception yes it's free for 30 mins ONLY!!!!! Every time we went back in the room shall we say it didn't smell the best the only way to stop the smell coming in from obviously other rooms toilets either put the plugs in or constantly run the taps!!! Towels are not even included in the price we've stayed in basic in VT before and it was loads better then this VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!

You get what you pay for with these apartments. Room we had was small but had everything we needed, most importantly it was warm and clean. Take extra toilet roll and bin bags as only 1 of each was provided when we arrived. There is also a dishwasher so take dishwasher tablets. The safe in the room costs €15 for the week, we had a slight problem with this as my husband had to ask 3 times to get it unlocked before we could use it, there is a tv in the room which costs extra too. We were on the second floor facing the front and wasn't bothered by outside noise, was mainly the room next to us and across from us who were noisy! There is lockers to keep winter sports equipment in, there is washing machines and tumble driers and also free wifi in reception. The apartment is very close to the slopes, just a 2 minute walk and also restaurants, take aways, supermarkets, shops and the sports centre.
For the price we paid for over Christmas we got what we paid for.

Stayed here last year three of us in the room. The room was basic at best, very small. We did stay over new years which probably made it expensive. In fairness the rooms did have every thing you need but probably too small for more then two people. Light switches over the beds were very irritating kept turning on if you move at all during the night. No problems with heating and there was a balcony as well. I not sure if I would recommend these maybe if you were on a budget but they didn't seem to be cheap? I suppose 80% of the time your going to be out of the room so if your happy with just the basics then they will do the job. Val Thorens is one the best skiing areas i have been to so far and it easily over shadow the mediocre experience in the olympiades.

Its important to remember why you are here. You are here for the snow & Boarding. VT Has pretty much the best conditions you can get. The room was clean with the basics and was toasty warm. Its not the Four Seasons, but then we we're not into paying Four Seasons Prices. Sure there are much more posher places to stay, but these tend to come with 'posh' prices! Its near the shops so that's good and near the bars, so all's good! Val Thoren can be a bit boisterous but then i can think of a skiing resort that isn't. After all you get to Ski every day. We went with Inghams and they were great. The staff know what they're doing and know there way around the resort.

Important tip: Take some dishwasher tablets & bin bags, as they were not supplied.

Great Value, Great Snow!

Went there with my friends during winter holidays for a week. It's basic with everything you need. Nic, very clean place when you are not planning to stay in the room, because they are very small! We were living three of us and there was no way to place the table, so we were eating on the beds. Very warm inside, which is important, since it is very cold in Val Thorens. Small kitchen set including dishwasher - big plus! Clean bathrooms, wooden shelves in the room. For me it was good quality for not a big amount of money. It is great!

VERY basic. 3 of us self catering. We had only 2 cereal bowls but just the 1 spoon. No kettle or toaster and oh yes, our pan for boiling water with had no handle. And could reception furnish us with some? Non. We had to steal a couple of spoons from a cafe on the slopes just so we could have some cornflakes in the morning. Reception was staffed with the most unhelpful, rude, disinterested, people available. Very close to the amenities, this included hourly crowds of drunks stopping at the fast food establishment just outside out window for a late night snack/fight/shag. I swear that at one point a couple of them were turning into werewolves. The 3 valleys is a great ski area and I am sure that there are some decent hotels in Val Thorens. We also found the resort in general to be dirty and VERY over priced. I for one will never go back to france skiing again. £2.50 for a bloody Bounty Bar!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear should not get the nightly circus of drunks passing by.
