We stayed at Hotel Le Sherpa over Christmas in 2010. The room was clean, and while not spacious, had ample room for a couple and their ski gear. The hotel is right next to the trail and there is a locker room literally adjacent to the trail. (The trail is 20 feet away, up a steep incline, and while you must skate a little to get going at first, you can be at several different lifts in a matter of minutes.) However, I was surprised at how easy it would be to get to the trail and lifts if you didn't stay at a hotel that was technically ski-in/ski-out. It seemed as though no hotel in Val Thorens was more than a five minute walk to the lifts or slopes - something to consider when valuing the premium you pay for ski-in/ski-out.

The food was delicious. Each night, with the exception of fondue and raclette nights, included a five course meal. Each course was delicious and filling. Particularly exceptional was the array of local cheeses available during the cheese course and the dessert buffet that they offered 4 times a week. For our Christmas feast we were even served our own personal buche de noel!

The staff was also very helpful and friendly. I wouldn't call Hotel Le Sherpa the best value, but for us it was a very pleasant splurge and I would certainly go back and recommend it to others looking for a cozy French Alps getaway.

We booked this hotel through the Crystal finest brochure - and stayed on a half-board basis over Christmas 2010.

This is a great hotel for skiers. The location means it is just a minutes walk into the centre of town, so close enough to easily slide to - but quiet enough to escape the nighttime revelers. It has also an easy ski in ski out location.

The rooms were small but perfectly formed - the only complaint from my partner (of over 6 foot) was that the bath was cramped making it difficult for him to wash his knees or anything above the waist - the pressure in the hot water was also slightly temperamental causing the shower attachment to be erratic. I would have also appreciated tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, the food was well cooked, substantial and tasty - but choice was limited.

We found the bar prices on the high side (as was found throughout the resort), but the choice of local wines at dinner time were of a high quality and very reasonable.

Although I have only been to Val Thorens in the winter season. I would definantly recommend this hotel for both an energetic ski-ing holiday or just for those who wish a quiet time reading a book in front of a roaring log fire.

Hotel staff were friendly and the building is nicely and traditionally decorated but the establishment lacked several amenities that you would hope to find in a real ski resort - There is no parking available for your car (and no heated public parking available) and at -12C this is a disadvantage, also the hotel's wireless internet did not work with laptops that ran Windows Vista, and the food (which was included) was heavy and greasy each day. Also the hotel is located far from the beginners slopes so you have to walk through town a bit carrying your skis uphill which is not really pleasant.

Stayed at Le Sherpa in January 2009 on a half board basis (breakfast and evening Meal). What a great place. Really friendly staff, lovely cosy hotel, with lovely decor. The dining room, with log fire, the bar area really cosy - all lovely. Rooms were a little small but the rest of the hotel made up for it. The food was devine. Been skiing across Europe for years, and this was the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in. It is at the top of the resort but you can ski down to the main lift and ski school areas in a few minutes, or there is a bus every 30 minutes to take you down. Thought the buses would have run more often though, other ski resorts we've been to have buses coming every few minutes. We booked with first choice, it wasn't cheap but it was quality. The resort was rather expensive 20 euros for a burger and a coke at lunchtime!! needless to say we made sandwiches. All in all we had a fab time at le sherpa.

  • Liked — the warm, cosy feel and the friendly staff
  • Disliked — Rooms a little on the small side, not much storage space for us (but I do tend to take too much!)

This Hotel is at the very top of the village, and is quite a hike, but then if you are a skier, you either ski to the door, or you are fit anyway and the walk will not bother you.
My husband and I are not skiers, but the exercise and shops kept us fit.
This is a family run hotel, and it had a "home from home" atmosphere, the food was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them, Claude ran the bar, and Ronan the restaurant. The rooms were small but very clean, and every room had a balcony.
We stayed here with a group of 17 all families and were there over the New Year. New years eve was fantastic! they totally went for it! we had all sorts of party items, and it was not only aimed at the adults, but the children also.
We would definatly return to this hotel, it suited young and old alike, and would definatly recommend it.
Thank you to all at the Sherpa for a wonderful New Year's Eve, and good luck for you all in 2007!!
