“Far from Good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2008

Stayed for a week. Allot of bad points.

Had to rent towels, towels, covers.
40 euro for a TV.
1 lift for 6 floors.
Smelly, small ski storage
Stuffy / over heated room. made for 5 but 4 people would be a big squeeze.
8am check out.
un-maned reception area.

Good points:

bakery directly opposite main entrance.
ski in / ski out.
good sized balcony.

These are comfortable apartments, which are not luxurious or very modern, but are a great place to stay for a ski or outdoors holiday. Two of us stayed in a 5 person apartment which gave us loads of space. However, I wouldn't try fitting more than three people into the 5 person apartment as it would get very crowded. There are three single beds located on an upstairs mezzanine level and the couch in the living area downstairs turns into a double bed. However, if the couch were being used, you would end up with little lounge/dining space downstairs.

On arrival you are given sheets and you must make up your own bed. Towels are also provided at a charge. The beds were really comfortable and the apartment was always toasty warm. You can adjust the heating yourself, though, if it gets too warm. We found the storage space in the apartment to be fine. There is a big wardrobe upstairs and also one in the hallway.

The reception area only opens for about 2 or 3 hours per day but we never had any need for them to be open more than this. The location of the apartments is really excellent. You can access the ski slope by walking about 20 metres across the road and the lift that brings you to the main shopping centres of the resort is right next door to the Silveralp. There are shops and restaurants on the same road as the apartment and the nicest bakery ever ("Sucré Salé") is directly across the road - great for croissants for breakfast!

We had great views from our apartment out across the ski slope and the locker area for storing skis is pretty standard.

I only have one small complaint about our stay here and that is to do with the fact that we were woken up many nights by noise in the street outside our apartment. As I said already, the apartment is right beside the main lift that brings you from the lower half of the resort to the upper half and this seems to be a popular route home for rowdy drunken people in the small hours of the morning! Having said that though, this is obviously a problem for all accommodation in the area and the lower half of the resort (where the SIlveralp is) is definitely quieter than the upper half which has all the bars and nightclubs!

I would certainly recommend The Silveralp Apartments for a comfortable stay with skiing virtually to your door!

The Silveralp apartments are typical French ski apartments; clean, small and functional. Ours slept 5 with 3 beds in a mezzanine level which had a low ceiling, and 2 in the lounge area downstairs.

There was a narrow entrance hall off which was the separate toilet, bathroom with a small bath and then you went into a slightly larger lounge area with the kitchen attached. The kitchen comprised of a narrow galley with 4 ring cooker, a oven the size of a microwave above and a full size dishwasher and fridge. No kettle but there was a cafetiere.

The main drawbacks to the apartments were the lack of storage space for clothes, the mezzanine level was stuffy and had a low ceiling, and the hire for a TV was expensive for the week. You also had to hire towels.

On the plus side, they were clean, adequate and had plenty of hot water.

The ski lockers are good with decent locks on for a change.

The overall location of the apartments is excellent too. It is a very short walk to the slopes, there is an excellent bakery opposite and you are next to the escalators that take you up to the main level in Val Thorens.

In addition, the appartments had a strict silence policy after 10pm which seemed to work.

Don't come here if you are expecting luxury, if you want something more basic though, the apartments are fine.
