In our next time in Val Thorens, Altapura will be our first and only choice. The Altapura experience was exceptional and very unique. The staff is very attentive, welcoming and ready to serves (Special thanks to Renat , the best concierge ever ) . The Hotel shuttle is just a great service and always available. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Should you booked the suite for your family, privacy might be an issue. The Half Board is good value for money and more. Breakfast and dinner are always rich, generous and luxuries. Only one exception, the ski equipment shop's rental prices are much too high and don’t meet the other shops prices.
We had a great time and the best Ski vacation in Altapura Val Thorens.

Definitely a prime location if you're looking to ski in / ski out, beautiful decoration and everything is still new and immaculate. As we were there during low season, there was plenty of space in the ski-lockers and in the underground garage. The only restaurant open was the 2003: buffet style every night and absolutely delicious. The only "less good point" are the prices there. A dinner for 2 was almost the same price than the room - without and wine-bottles, just 2-3 glasses of open wine. If we had checked that before, we might have dined out one 1-2 evenings. I also agree with JezebelleH's comment on the temperature: rather cooool in the room. You wouldn't want to stay in your room which is a shame as they are spacious and very nicely decorated. Staff was super friendly, very attentive at the bar too. Maybe a little less loud music on the outside terrace would also be OK, you need to shout at each other to make yourself understand. Great week-end and I am sure, I'd like to go back.

Our experience at Altapura was VERY mixed. On arrival our room was (what I consider to be) a freezing 18 degrees. Call me high maintenance, but I like a room in a 5-star hotel in an Alpine ski resort to be warm. We immediately asked how we could raise the temperature and were told that the heating was centrally controlled and would be raised from reception. When we returned to our room a couple of hours later after dinner, nothing had been done. The room was still freezing. This led to a lengthy back and forth between our room and reception and eventually ended with a staff member bringing up a noisy portable heater. Really? Breakfast was served buffet-style in the main restaurant. They were out of juice and croissants by the time we arrived for breakfast the next morning and it took all of half an hour for them to restock the buffet. The service in the restaurant was patchy, with one staff member doing the work of 5 others. We were on half-board and therefore ate at all three of the in-house restaurants. Our meal in the main restaurant - another buffet-style offering - was neither here nor there. The bistro-like restaurant was the smartest of the three and the food was of high quality. However, we were required to pay a surcharge to dine there. The remaining restaurant served cheese dishes - only a fondue and raclette for the main course - and didn't quite manage to pull this off. Any Alpine restaurant that serves raclette is (usually) equipped with a number of raclette machines that are brought to the table and set up for you to use. This was not the case here. The waitress would run up and down between the various tables and the front of the restaurant to fetch plates of melted cheese that were cold and congealed by the time they arrived at the table. The ski room was very badly designed. Not only were the lockers in which you stored your gear awkward to use, but there were not enough of them. There were roughly 50 lockers for 80 rooms - a strange oversight in a hotel situated on a ski slope. Similarly, the number of guests in the hotel far outnumbered the amount of available treatment rooms and therapists in the spa. For a hotel that advertises its spa as one of its key features, guests must be able to make easy use of the facilities. Having said all that, there were some very positive features. The interior of the hotel is beautiful - it is decorated with light wood and warm fabrics and is exceptionally well done. Some of the treatment rooms in the spa are 'wallpapered' with slender birch trunks to excellent effect. It is a pleasure to ski in and out of the hotel and the ski in the area is fabulous. If the hotel were able to sort out some of their practical and service-related problems, I imagine the experience would be a much more positive one.

I did not sleep here, but visited the hotel. The front desk lady was very friendly and showed me the hotel. I saw a standard room and a duplex suite. Both rooms were very comfortable and were roomy. The bar was exceptional! Prices were ok and the drinks were good! They even drove us to our hotel l'Oxalys for free. Top service!

I stayed in this hotel twice - this April and last December when it was just opened.
Before I stayed in the same class Fitz Roy hotel there. It was a big difference. Fitz Roy - not very old but ls already lousy and spited. But Altapura is not so posh but pretty decent place , modern, clean, well designed. It located right on the slope with ski-in, ski-out. I also admit that Altapura has may be the best cousine there. The breakfast and dinner was very good with big variety of meals.
Also this hotel offers very good free WI-FI.

Room Tip: Beware, that the hotel is placed downhill at the and of the road. During the huge snowfall in Decemb...

Lives up to expectations. Ski in and out. Only niggles drinks very expensive and ski room a bit small.
One of the nicest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in.

We stayed at the Altapura for a week Easter skiing. The location on the mountain side is ideal, ski in and out. The staff are so helpful and pleasant and can't do enough for you. We ate alternate evenings in the Restaurant Les Enfants Terrible which was out of this world!! We could choose from the a la carte menu up to the value of 61 euros on food, for this we were having fillet steak and scallops which were to die for finished off with the most delicious desserts imaginable. We never expected to get this standard of food on a half board basis booked ski holiday.
The spa is another wonderful experience not to be missed indoor/outdoor pool with gym sauna and steam room, huge bean bags to relax and read on.
The lovely contempory design of the hotel feels modern but very homely warm and comfortable.
If you love great skiing in the lap of luxury this is the place to stay.
