This is a good, well run hotel in the best location imaginable in Tignes. It fronts onto the centre of Tignes, and it's a 50m walk to all the lifts, shops, swimming pool and ski school. Mme Capucine runs a tight ship for her international clientele.
Best points:
- Location, location, location
- Rooms clean, nice and not too shoebox-y
- Great top floor lounge/ breakfast room
- Wifi for guests
- Spa downstairs
Mainly French clientele- keeps the standards higher!
Less good:
- Breakfast is good, but service can be chaotic and over stretched
- Dinner in the attached restaurant (l'escale Blanche) is great for pizza and Savoyarde dishes, but don't stray too far beyond that.

The Hotel was one we had stayed at before, and were glad we could rebook over the half-term week. We had a family suite, for me, my wife and our two grown daughters. It comprised a main bedroom (~140 sq. ft.) furnished with twin beds, writing desk and two chairs and an easy chair. There was a large built in wardrobe; a second bedroom (~80 sq. ft.) twin beds and again with a large built in wardrobe.; a bathroom and a separate WC.

The hotel has 4 floors of accommodation, in addition to a reception area and ski/boot room on the ground floor (occupying ~ a third of the footprint, the remainder is the "L'Escale Blanche" Restaurant), a "fitness" room in the basement and a breakfast area/bar (evenings) in the roof space/eaves.

The fitness room houses a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, a massage shower and some exercise machines. Robes are obtained from reception and towels are supplied in the room.

The breakfast room is very quaint ( wooden beams and a large cart holding the foodstuffs) and the breakfasts include:-breads, croissants, various jams etc.,pain au chocolate, cheeses and cold meats, cereals, fruit salad, dried fruits, eggs you boil yourself, fruit juices , tea, coffee and hot chocolate to drink. All in all an excellent buffet style continental breakfast.

The staff on reception (led by the owner herself) are extremely helpful, having car-parking tickets (compulsory in the skiing season) and ski passes (included in the price) available at check-in for you. In addition they will book restaurants for you, we always ate in the adjoining L'Escale Blanche, which has an extensive menu ranging from pizza (~€12) through fondues, raclettes, hot stones and traditional menu items to the four course set menu (€39.90). The bill is passed next door to the hotel and there is only one grand settlement to pay at the end of the week.

Finally the hotel is situated right across the road (~30 yards from the main Aeroski telecabin and ~75 yds from other lifts) close to the centre of le lac, convenient for ski school , shops and restaurants etc.

Warm welcome and warmer room with balcony overlooking lifts. Fair sized room with ample built in wardrobe space. Restaurant for breakfast has lovely views of mountains. Good sauna, steam room, jacuzzi were a welcome resting place at the end of the day; bath robes on request.

Ski lifts; parking (P3) (pre-book a ticket with hotel and swipe out at barrier (EUR15 per day)); and bus station/ticket office at Le Lac all within 100 metres; and only 50m to ski hire (Valon gives hotel discount) and good restaurant (L'Arbina).

I stayed in a 3 bed room for a week in mid Jan with my wife and a friend. The hotel is across the road from the "Aeroski" lift in Tignes Le Lac which provides superb connections with the whole Espace Killy ski resort. Handily the free resort bus stops right outside the hotel and we made use of this more than once to enjoy the Apres Ski in other areas of Tignes before being dropped off right outside the hotel. The main Lac bus station is also conveniently close which cuts down to a minimum the horrible trudge through town after getting the transfer from airport/eurostar. The room was big enough for the three of us, had a balcony and overlooked the Aeroski lift and the frozen lake. As a previous reviewer has mentioned we did experience the cleaners trying to service the room while we were at breakfast but this happened once and simply putting the "don't clean/clean now" tag on the outside door handle solved the issue. I really didn't see it as a big issue at all! We used the downstairs spa everyday although it did get quite busy at times it was not overcrowded and we enjoyed chatting with some of the other guests whilst relaxing. Overall Le Refuge has got a lot going for it if you just want a hotel and are willing to eat out at lunch and the evening. Whilst I probably won't stay there next year, (I will probably head to Val D'Isere for a change of scene), I would have no hesitation recommending the hotel to family and friends.

We stayed at hotel le refuge for a last minute short ski. It was exactly what we expected; very clean rooms, nice breakfast buffet; superb location in front of the lifts and slopes. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We loved the sauna and steamroom after a long day of skiing as well as having a drink on the top floor in front of the fireplace/

Having stayed at le Refuge almost every one of the last 8 years for skiing holidays I can't add much more praise than other reviewers have given. For fun, I shall tell you the two worst things: the dang room keys are on horrendous large sharp metal key fobs and are a pain in more ways than one; and secondly, the Boot Room - although well equipped - is unfortunately rather cramped (especially at peak times, when I, being a lazy swine, am always struggling to sort out myself and the kids). So in other words, very minor criticisms of an EXCELLENT hotel.
And here's a tip if you want to conduct your abloutions in peace - there's a "secret", unmarked but fully equipped shower room and separate toilet on the top floor (the one underneath the marvellous breakfast loft). A godsend if you are in one of the family suites! Just hope it's not busy now when I next need it...

We stayed at Hotel Le Refuge for three nights in December 2009. The Hotel is very centrally located just across the road from thr main ski lifts

The rooms were comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean, the breakfasts were excellent, the ski/boot room and spa facilities were all very good but the hotel really excels in the friendliness, courtesy and professionalism of its staff.

An excellent hotel thoroughly recommended.
