Above the leCoffee cafe (which I recommend by the way) in Val Claret, Tignes, Pepe 2000 is situated in the best location at the resort. Unfortunately, location alone won't make a good business. The service leaves a lot to be desired i.e. waiting for eternity for a waiter to take your order. However, the way the staff has been known to treat potential customers is appalling. I have witnessed a customer being yelled at for using the restaurant toilet without 'saying hello' to the respective waiter who was obviously needing some attention. The waiter demanded the client (who had been a customer several times during the week) pay two euros for using the toilet. The food also is quite average and whether it has anything to do with Pepe2000 or not, my husband suffered food poisoning after having an anchovy and capers pizza (too many anchovies and too many capers, by the way).... We return to Tignes every year for February half term, but we definitely will not be returning to Pepe2000.

It took an eternity for anyone to take our order. It was 1400 so quiet after the lunchtime rush. Chips were nice but felt it was an effort for staff to serve us.

Twinned with the nearby Petit Savoyard, Pepe 2000 is streets ahead regarding food and service. They offer a very reasonable 15 Euro lunchtime menu, comprising of two courses. The salad Nicoise was delicious and the steak au poivre was a generous plate accompanied by frites, veg and pickles. They are generous with the condiments, chilli oil, Vinegar and as much Parmesan as you want for no extra charge. Service is friendly and unlike other restaurants in the village, you don't feel time pressured to vacate the table as soon as the plates are cleared. The pizzas and pastas are delicious. The carbonara is wonderful, huge amounts of bacon and cream with a massive bowl of spaghetti. I recommend This place. Don't go to Petit Savoyard. That place has gone downhill big time.

We ate here on our chalet host's night off on the recommendation of the resort rep; we managed to get a table for 10 at short notice. It's marketed as Italian but they do all the local favourites and that's what we all had: raclette, pierrade and fondue bourgignon.

The raclette was the smallest piece of cheese I've had - a wedge rather than a half - but just right for two. Our group all wanted a taste so it didn't go as far as it might. The meat and potatoes were very nice.

The fondue was what you would expect but tasty and no complaints. The star of the show was by far the pierrade. Electric rather than oven-heated we were initially sceptical but it did the job well, the meat was great and everybody was happy.

The staff were very helpful and tolerant of our loud, boisterous group and took part in the fun. The bar they recommended for afterwards was extortionate though so beware.

I'd certainly go back.
