“Not a brilliant choice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Smallish room, not too clean, a bit smelly; unhelpful owners; nice chimney in the lobby which was never lit; really bad wi-fi, not working most of the time - all in all not good value considering the price. Best thing was location - right in front of the slopes.

Cher Client,

It's diificult to know quite how to describe our recent stay at the Nagano. It has a very good location, an excellent spa and pool area, and comfortable beds. That's the good bit.
The bad bit is that we found the staff cold and unhelpful - this started back in October when I received an email saying I hadn't paid my deposit - so i checked my Visa and sure enough I had paid it. There followed a series of email exchanges and telephone conversations which got me nowhere, so eventually my wife paid again on her credit card. I ended up claiming my original payment back from my credit card provider - but guess what? when I came to pay my bill at the end of our stay the owner said that I hafd paid the deposit twice - unbelievable in view of the efforts I had made to get her to check back in October.
On arrival we were struggling with cases but were offered no help; at breakfast time none of the staff said good morning; on 5 out of the 7 mornings there was no hot food - no-one seemed to check if the scrambled eggs and bacon had run out; when I asked for the time of our return taxi to Geneva to be brought forward the receptionist called the taxi firm and between them they decided that the original pick up time of 10.45 was OK (had we stuck with this we would have missed our flight because of the traffic jam in Taninge). The next day I insisted that the time be brought forward and the receptionist called them again and they promised to confirm an earlier pick up. When I checked the following morning the response was "I've only just got into work". Later that day the recptionist did at least speak to me - only to say that the taxi firm hadn't called back! I had to ask her to call them.
I could go on but quite frankly it gets me too annoyed!!

Cher Client,

Just back from a week in the Hotel Le Nagano and feel compelled to write a review as this hotel is just perfect. We are a family of four and stayed in a duplex room (20) which means you have a mezzanine with a double bed and 3 singles down stairs along with a small but adequate kitchenette. The rooms are great with robes, slippers and some nice toiletries ,one English News channel but we were not there to watch the tv. Downstairs the facilities are wonderful, pool and 2 Jacuzzi's, steam room, a sagatorium like a like in capsule which is worth a go if you have aching legs. Also worth mentioning facilities for kids pool table, table tennis and other things, you can take a drink downstairs from the bar and enjoy these until late in the evening with no hassle. They is a restaurant next door which we used a few times and you can access this from inside the hotel near reception, useful if the kids want to come back in for a game of something while you finish your wine.We self catered and ate out as hotel is french but I heard the food is good too. To sum this hotel up its friendly and the staff cannot do enough for you but also let you just get on with your holiday and relax with great facilities and literally across the road from the slopes, you will not be disappointed if you choose here, in-fact you will love it like we did.. did i mention it is also spotlessly clean!

= Purpose
Spent eight nights on a half board basis at the family-run chalet Hotel Le Nagano on a skiing vacation in late January with three other friends (2 couples).

= Room
Situated on the second floor, the standard room [16] we stayed in is large and can double as a mini apartment (for self catering use), since it is furnished with a kitchenette and two bunk-beds for kids.

The main beds are medium sized with a semi hard mattress and soft square pillows. The small wooden side commodes have a traditional reading lamp on.

Space is ample and the room is furnished with a dining table and four wooden chairs, a writing table and chair, and a double wardrobe with a large safe deposit locker inside. The room has glass sliding doors across its whole width, leading on to a balcony furnished with two deckchairs, and let in plenty of light when the curtain is curtailed.

There is a large Samsung TV in the room that offers a large variety of French speaking stations (including EuroSport and National Geographic), plus the BBC World and a German channel.

The overall decor of the room is rustic, French chalet style (naturally), and gives the reassuring feeling of warmth.

= Bathroom
The ensuite bathroom is conveniently (or not so) split in two, the toilet separated from the mid-sized bath/shower and wash hand basin room. There's a large towel warmer and three embroidered towels per person. A bathrobe and bath slippers are also freely provided. The room is stocked with two bars of soap, two body/hair shampoo flasks and a body lotion flask, all of which are of very good quality. For those who make use of it there is a good hand held hair dryer.

= Breakfast
For breakfast one has a choice of yoghurt, cereals, muesli, jam, fresh fruit, cakes, pain au chocolat, honey, croissants, sliced loaf bread for toast, baguettes, cold cuts (cheese, ham and speck), hard boiled eggs and two types of juices plus a hot section consisting of scrambled eggs and miniature sausages. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot milk are served by the waiting staff.

= Dinner
Having booked half board, we were served a five-course dinner every night, with the exception of two evenings, where Savoyard specialities were on offer. The food was really delicious and well plated.

The waiting staff are very courteous, efficient and friendly, with basic command of the English language, whilst fluent in French. Their service was, nevertheless, sterling silver!

The week's dining menu is notified in advance inside the hotel's lift.

= Amenities and common areas
The hotel boasts an adequate sized ski room, with individual lockers for the storing of skis, poles and snowboards. It is very conveniently accessible by lift from within the hotel while the exiting (and subsequent entrance with ski boots on) is via the garage ramp (so no steps but an inclination). We were given a discount, thanks to the hotel, when hiring our gear from the neighbouring ski shop - Jordan's Sports.

Parking is available within the hotel's perimeter and probably also in the garage.

In the basement, there is a well-equipped fitness gym with six different workout machines, a children's playing area, two ‘old school’ car video games, a flipper, a rather old table soccer, and a small billiard table. Good fun!! Furthermore there is a heated swimming pool, which is mostly shallow with a small deep area, under a lovely convertible roof, and two jacuzzis. One can also make an appointment to book a massage.

The reception area is within a large rustic lounge and has this mountain feel all around. There are many wooden sofas with cottage style cushions around coffee tables, which surround the authentic log fireplace.

Wifi is free, but a four hour code is required for access. That said, the reception is at its best in the lounge area, with patchy signal from the bedroom.

= Cleanliness
The hotel is impeccably clean throughout, with the entire floor surface area washed daily!

= Overall Experience
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Le Nagano and would recommend it to friends seeking our same experience. The hotel is situated extremely close to the ski school and the slopes. There is a functioning village around with supermarkets, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, delicatessens, sport apparel shops, the police, a RC chapel, etc all within walking distance.

For its three star hotel rating, this is definitely at the top of its tier, and very good value for money.

The Nagano is literally across the road from the foot of the slopes..you could not get any nearer! Very good sized rooms for a ski hotel, with great bathrooms. The pool, jacuzzi, hot tub, steam room and sauna are fantastic after a days skiing. We had the half board option, with a 4 or 5 course Dinner each evening..great for Adults..kids food was a bit basic, but they could also try things off the adult menu. Friendly and helpful staff, and mainly a French clientele. Going back next year to have the same room (Savoyarde), but with the kitchen option..each room has a table and chairs, with a kitchen unit behind a roll up screen.

Room Tip: Savoyarde Rooms are better decorated and better fittings than standard..and a very good size....coul...

Great stay - very close to the lifts and in the centre of town - rooms lovely with great newly fitted bathrooms and very comfy beds and a balcony. Great facilities including 2 jacuzzis and small warm swimming pool which really hit the spot after a day on the slopes. A delightful small hotel with a great alpine ambience and friendly helpful staff.

A delightful family run hotel in the centre of Les Gets in the Haute Savoie, opposite the ski slopes.A fabulous ambiance and welcome await all clients. The decor, soft furnishings and leisure facilities are superb. The bedrooms are all very comfortable with modern bathrooms, colour Tv and security. Our room also had a very subtle kitchenette with sink, microwave and fridge. All the staff treat you as one of the family, nothing is too much trouble. The star rating of 3 is poor, 4+ would be more appropriate. Our second visit, looking forward to our third.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the lower ski slopes, all are to a high standard
