“Decent place, good for a long weekend”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

We have booked a small room on the top, which only has bath. Now, it also has a slanted ceiling, and if you are taller than 175cm you cannot straighten up in the toilet, not in the bath only but in the toilet. Shocked with this we asked to change the room, and we've got very nice room, warm, all in wood, in the same style as the whole resort.

The outside swimming pool is very nice and warm, the jacuzzi is a bit from the 80's but good enough, the sauna is normal, and hammam is a shower with steam.

The lady at the reception was very kind, everything was very clean, and the ski slopes are really close.

Despite a dated and rather eclectic web site this hotel surpassed our expectations and provided our small family of three comfortable, friendly, practical accommodation, perfect for one weeks skiing in the heart of Les Gets, France.

The hotel has recently gone through extensive refurb resulting in clean, tidy, warm accommodation as well as offering a warm, clean outside pool with views of the grand Mount Cherie piste and local church clock tower. A welcome reward post hard ski.

This hotel is not chic nor is it contemporary; on the contrary the decor is old fashioned "rural" with plenty of laminated word doc signs telling you in English and French what to do and where to go. One week of Alex Polizzi would not go amis and would certainly help the owners generate more attention from affluent punters.

However, beneath the lacklustre decor the hotel is good quality, with rooms akin to English Holiday Inns;- clean, utilitarian and unpretentious. Quite frankly if putting up with some in house Microsoft signage means continued lower room rates and the absence of "powder snobs" then all well and good.

If you enjoy red and black runs then access to these pistes are a 2 minute walk in ski boots if you are looking for blues greens and nursery slopes then a 10 minute flat walk along the main town road is required. Though there is a town taxi train that will collect and drop off.

Vermont ski hire is immediately across the road (20% hotel discount) as well as a great deli, post office and many many restaurants in touching distance. The hotel is situated a little away from the main town centre near the church which ensures a quiet night sleep.

The in house restaurant offers excellent service though the menu too large, too confusing and again put together using clip art and laminated word docs. The breakfast is help yourself to a wide selection of hot and cold, plus fruit and coffee

We were made to feel extremely welcome by the owner, Elaine who works very hard to please. Safe, simple, warm, practical, comfortable accommodation with rural charm if not a little too "home made" in places. We will be back.

Room Tip: We had a 3 bed studio room with oven, cooker, fridge and en suite plus balcony overlooking. Les Gets...

Found this hotel when planning a few days skiing with my wife. We are experienced skiers who know what we like, but hadn't stayed in Les Gets before.

(1) Location - just over an hour from Geneva so especially convenient for weekend breaks. Hotel's location in the village is ideal as it's between the main lifts on the Morzine side and the Mont Chery slopes behind the hotel. I would say a 3 - 4 mins walk before you either clip on your skis or board a telecabine. Some hotels in the village may be closer to the main lifts but their guests are more reliant on using the shuttle train to access the Mont Chery lift. The town itself is charming - plenty of shops, bars and restaurants - very family friendly too. There are several good restaurants close to the hotel which we booked after reviewing the top rated ones on Tripadvisor.

(2) The hotel - traditional Savoyard exterior and reception/restaurant. The rooms have all been renovated within the last year or so and are modern, comfortable and very clean. Our room had a kitchenette which would appeal to those also looking for self catering options. Hotel has free wifi as well.

The hotel has two Jacuzzis, a sauna, steam room, additional showers, some exercise equipment and a heated outside pool. This is not a 5 star hotel but we thought the facilities were a bonus within this price range. We were grateful of them when we came off the slopes early one afternoon due to adverse weather conditions - rain!

Breakfast was an additional 12 Euros p/person. Traditional continental/ski hotel breakfast - perfectly adequate.

(3) Staff - VERY friendly, couldn't do enough for us - especially Edith. We arrived at lunchtime and were able to change into our ski gear and leave the bags in a locked spare room. When we returned later that afternoon the bags had been moved to our room. When we checked out we were also able to leave our bags in the locked room, so we could return and change at the end of the day before transferring back to Geneva.

(4) Price - not cheap but reasonable for the standard of accommodation and location. There are plenty of other hotels that are more expensive than Alpen Sports!

(5) Other tips - on the hotel's website are links for ski hire. We used Vermont ski hire who are almost opposite and gave a 10% discount as we were referred by the hotel. I also booked ski passes on-line and selected the option to have them delivered to the hotel. So when we arrived it was quick and easy to get changed, pick up our passes, grab our skis and go!

In summary - a great hotel in a great location. It's not the fanciest hotel in town but decent value for money considering what you get and the staff are very friendly too. I would stay here again for sure.

Having never been to a ski resort before I was slightly gob smacked at the cost of 160 euros a night for the studio room. But it's right in the middle of the village, a short walk to the ski lift and has great views of the main run so I guess that adds to the cost. Room was a reasonable size, comfy but a bit too warm at times. Small heated outdoor pool, hot tub and gym all looked inviting - but not inviting enough to tempt me in.

Breakfast was an extra 15 euros and was a do it yourself buffet affair. Really do it yourself. You could squeeze your own oranges for juice, fry your own bacon and eggs on a lethally hot hotplate or drop eggs into bubbling cauldron of boiling water. Honestly - there was more scope for injuring yourself at breakfast than there was tumbling down the slopes.

Good selection of breads, pastries, cheeses, yoghurt, cold meat etc. Coffee was from a machine but at least you didn't have to grind the beans yourself.

All the staff were friendly and helpful and overall it was a pretty good experience.

This hotel seems to have had a recent renovation. We arrive to a very friendly hotel owner who showed us to our room.

The room was spacious, had a small kitchenette which was perfect for making breakfast/lunch. It slept 6 and had three bathrooms, two of which had showers. We had a balcony that looked onto the pool area and Mt Chery. The beds were very comfy also so we all had a great nights sleep. There were also three flat screen TV's, one had a DVD player which would be great for keeping kids entertained.

The leisure area is not that of a 5 star hotel, however it was perfect after a days skiing. There are two jacuzzis, a sauna, steamroom, some exercise machines and an outdoor pool. We really enjoyed the outdoor pool as it was heated and nice to jump in even though it was snowing!

Les Gets is a small village but has plenty to offer. The skiing was great, we had a couple of snow falls so the snow was pretty fresh. There are also so many ski runs in this area that you will never be bored. There are lots of nice bars and restaurants, BigFoots bar behind the hotel has a nice Indian restaurant and also pool tables, darts and fussball.

Overall we really enjoyed Les Gets and if I return I will definitely stay in Loc'hotel Alpen Sports.

We booked a last minute three day break to Les Gets. How convenient... flying to Geneva and then 1 hr by taxi to let Gets. We had no idea about les Gets and were pleasantly surprised. What a fun village. Ice skating rink, many restaurant, live music in the streets. Loved it! Ski area is very large with ski pistes for every level. Very service minded and friendly people. Everything is aimed at making the ski guests happy.
Only thing is we did not realize that we had to make reservations for each night we went out. We were stuck with three tired kids 2 nights as there were literally no more available tables anywhere, maybe because it was just after New Year's?
Loc'hotel was very nice. Wonderful service by Edith. Bfast selfservice, had everything (except a cappucino which I missed but then just had on the slopes). Rooms are recently remodeled and nice, certainly not huge, but it worked for us.
Kids loved the pool and jacuzzi. Jacuzzi area was not super, but hey, it was there and the water was nice and warm!
Overall great mini break. We'll be back.

Room Tip: One of the rooms we had was behind the restaurant, so we had to go thru the restaurant every time...

After a long car journey travelling back from Italy, and a two hour delay through the Mont Blanc tunnel, we received a warm welcome on arrival late at night (thank you to the staff for waiting up for us after closing time!). The room was excellent and ideal both for our short family stop over and for a longer term self catering break if we had wanted. Family room with separate rooms what a bonus! Excellent optional breakfast buffet with lots of choice which really pleased the children. As did the swimming pool at the end of a fun day spent completing the treetop assault course in the nearby adventure parc. I would also recommend the restaurant for an evening meal, not cheap, but very good quality and choice. This a great hotel with excellent facilities at a reasonable price in a beautiful location.
