“Excellent staff”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

Our fourth trip to La Clusaz and our third visit to Floralp. On each occasion, the staff have been brilliant - very friendly and always very welcoming. This time we chose B&B so that we could have the choice of eating at local restaurants. With dinner served at 7pm we found this too late after a day on the slopes, so it suited us. We have taken half-board before and found the food good - but not best suited to youngsters. It is great for those willing to try the local specialities. Rooms are fairly small but adequate for us, as we travel light. The wardrobe in our bedroom this time though was tiny with two small hanging rails and only two high shelves for jumpers etc. Our teenage daughters had a much larger room though and with more storage space - so it does vary. However, it did not subtract too much from our visit. Maybe not suited to those using their full 20Kg baggage allowance ! Bed was a bit worn causing a bit of discomfort. We loved the breakfast with good helpings of big croissants and french bread. We often took tea and coffee in the lounge in the evenings in front of a blazing log fire - what better ! Centrally located next to the bus terminus (but far enough not to hear any noise) it was easy for us to catch the bus to nearby Grand Bornand for a different day of skiing. We have used Le Schuss at the foot of the slopes in La Clusaz (5 mins walk) for our ski hire each year - equally helpful. Eating out - try some of the restaurants at the the top of the village - UGo is good or La Cordee for pizzas. La Galeche in the village - excellent. Found staff at L'Auberge Des Aravis in the village just plain rude and didn't go in - obviosuly not British tolerant ! A bit of french does help in La Clusaz though as English is not widely spoken. Bet to book through the local Tourist Office (laclusaz.com) as you get a much lower price on ski passes and ski hire - and you will get an ensuite room. The best part of this hotel - the Floralp, is the staff - they are always very helpful and polite despite our poor spoken french and this is why we keep going back - makes all the difference. Well done to them - a great holiday.

Room Tip: South-facing rooms have a balcony with a great view of the slopes.

I went skiing for the first time in La Clusaz over New Year 2008. We booked late so stayed in the only place available - Hotel Floralp. The rooms were small and the bathroom miniscule, but that is the only failing of the entire trip. We had half board in the hotel and the food was FANTASTIC; plenty of it and very tasty. The hotel was brilliantly located (right next to the bus station and 2 minutes walk from the ski lifts). We had skiing lessons from Yvan, a private instructor with 'Alter Ego'. He was fantastic and well worth the money.
La Clusaz was great for first time skiers and families. It was buzzing with a family friendly atmosphere and the runs were busy but not horribly so. There is plenty to do in terms of walking and swimming and drinking vin chaud. Would definitely recommend it and would go again.
