Very good Hotel, friendly staff, excellent food.
As a last minute Ski break for myself and 7 friends for 4 nights,we booked this Hotel as it was one of the few available for the first week of March. When we arrived we were pleasantly greeted and booked in to our rooms quickly. We arrived at 10am and were not expecting to have the rooms ready for us but the staff checked with cleaning and gave us 2 rooms whilst the others were being finished.
The Hotel is a very short walk (about 40m) to the bus stop on the main road. Busses run regularly to the main Ski areas and the local Ski area and lift is only 2 stops up the road on the free bus. The free bus requires a change of busses if you want to access Chatels main route but there is a pay bus that takes you directly to the Linga Lift in Chatel which then gives you access to the main Port du Soleil ski routes. The pay bus takes about 15 minutes to the Chatel Linga lift station. All of this was very well explained by the receptionist in the Hotel when we checked in, including a bus guide and timetable which was very efficient and helpful.
The Hotel is in very good order, very clean and has great alpine character. There is a comfortable lounge and bar area and 2 dining areas. There is a secure Ski/boot room, a games room and a pool / sauna. The food in the evenings was superb. We booked on a half board basis and there was a choice of starter, followed by a set main meal, then a very well stocked cheese board and then finally a choice of desserts. A couple of times some people did not want the set main but the staff were happy to offer an alternative choice with no hassle at all. The quality of the food was to a very high standard as was the service and far better than we were expecting. Breakfast was also very good with the option to cook or boil your own eggs and a very good selection of cereals, fruit, pastries, bread, ham, cheese etc.
The pool , Sauna and hot tub were a good addition to end a days Skiing. As for the rooms, these were a little small but were very clean and comfortable. However, we booked late and had to take what was available and we were informed that these were the smaller rooms when we booked. However, we had a nice balcony, a plasma TV, an Ipod dock/alarm and did not spend much time in the rooms anyway as the downstairs lobby was a very nice place to relax. Free Wi-fi in both rooms and lobby was a nice addition too.
if this Hotel was right on the slopes than the prices would be much higher for the standard provided. We were concerned about not being in the main resport of Chatel on booking but did not really find the busses too much hassle (the one you pay only 1.5 euros for was very quick and easy to use). We all agreed that for the value of the hotel, the bus was a small issue that we were happy with. The village is quite small, we went out a couple of nights and found an Irish bar up the road but the main nightlife is certainly in Chatel itself. However, the Hotel offered to arrange taxis if we wanted to go there in the evening but we found the fine dining and reasonably priced drinks in the Hotel suited us most evenings. This is with the exception of the wine though, which we thought was a bit on the expensive side in the restaurant. As for any negatives or comments on improvemnets, some dressing gowns in the room would be nice to go down to the pool in, only 1 plug in the room was a problem for three people wanting to charge phones, cameras etc every night and the Wi-fi was not the fastest and often intermittent. However, these are minor really and overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Phone directly to book. For some reason our direct price was cheaper than ther Internet rates. Also, consider half board as the restaurant prices looked expensive and we thought the half board option was more reasonable.

This was our second visit and we had no qualms over returning. We first went two years ago and stayed over New Year. The food that evening was sensational and we still have fond memories of it. The purpose of both trips was skiing and this year we recommended it to friends (a family of six) who joined us. They were given a lovely pair of adjoining rooms which suited them perfectly. The hotel has got a lot going for it bearing in mind we were there for skiing. I don't agree with a previous comment about the location. The free shuttle bus stop is a minute away and another bus service costing a euro goes further afield. The skiing was really good with virtually no lift queues in British half term week. A lot of the food is wonderful and a sumptuous cheese board is brought out every night. The staff are friendly and flexible. For example it was 'No problem' that our friends arrived quite late in the evening but were still able to eat. However one disappointing experience has prompted us to submit this review. There was a long questionnaire in the room which was mostly about their website. Having found and booked the hotel through the Logis website, I looked at their own website and found that the room rate we were being charged was for the higher four day rate rather than the cheaper rate for the five days we were staying. At checkout time I queried this and was told in no uncertain terms that the higher rate was the internet rate and that I should have telephoned to book. As implied in a previous review, Madame can be a bit fierce and at one point she snatched the printed internet pages from my hand. As I said, it was a return visit and we had introduced additional guests so I was unhappy that there was no negotiation on this. Maybe there is a lesson there and I should check more thoroughly from more than one website to check that it is the best rate. Nonetheless I have since found myself reflecting on some of the not so positive aspects of the hotel as a result of this experience. The pool and spa facilities are adequate but can get crowded. Last time we went there were dressing gowns in our room but now they are charged at three euros a day each. So we paid 24 euros for two fairly threadbare dressing gowns which we wore 5 mins a day to and from the swimming pool. Like the pool, the breakfast arrangements are just about adequate but there can be some queuing for just cold buffet or eggs you cook yourself. The wines from the wine list were good quality but pricey, I can't remember anything under 27 euros. Certainly no cheap house wine. We were half board which gave us a choice of first course no choice of main course, the aforementioned cheeseboard with a salad and a choice of four or five desserts. On one night there was a childrens' alternative and on our last night the main course was fish in absinthe and fennel sauce. We were told that the children could have their fish fried but after ordering, we were told that the children could not have theirs prepared differently so the alcoholic sauce was completely inappropriate for small children. Would I go back there ? Possibly as an older couple with no children but I would check the rate carefully and take our own dressing gowns.

We had a rest in this hotel at the beginning of January, 2013. It was pleasant: decoration, purity, sauna and hammam. But we don't recommend this hotel. Location can be convenient only if you have a car. The pool is constantly occupied by hyper active French children. We don't advise to go to hotel restaurant: price level is exceeded, food ordinary, staff not friendly, service time at dinner more than 3,5 hours, some ordered dishes don't bring but money for them includes in the bill, compensation isn't offered.

We stayed between 31/12/12-4/1/13 and had the most amazing time. The hotel is full of alpine charm and combines modern with traditional. Rooms are very cosy and clean and the staff are incredibly friendly. The spa facilities at the end of the day are also very welcome.

The food is simply amazing. The hotel has a main restaurant which serves exquisite food - Michelin star standard IMO, and the downstairs restaurant offers cheese fondue and racqulet. They are both a must for your visit.

What was also brilliant was the ski area. Crete beni and braitiaz (I think) had some huge long green runs for beginners - the longest I've seen in many ski resorts and its also linked to the Portes du soleil for the more advanced - loved going from France to Switzerland.

Must for couples and foodies who love to ski.

Can't wait to go back!
