La Ferme du Chateau

I am just back from a skiing holiday in the Portes Du Soliel, me and 11 friends stayed in the chalet and were hosted exceptionally well by the chalets owner (Christine) and the two chalet girls (Jenny and Laura). Nothing was to much hassle, from driving us to the slopes to picking us up from the slopes or bars. The chalet itself is great with 6 en suite bedrooms, all finished to a high standard and the upstairs sitting room/ dining room is the perfect chill out/party room. I would highly recommend this chalet to groups and couples alike. I am already considering another trip!

We arrived at the Chalet after a monster 8 hour day hiking from Novel across the GR5 to be greeted by Christine the English owner. She is warm and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. The bed and bedding were unbelievably comfortable and snug, with the room as a whole including the bathroom being finished to a high standard.

Breakfast was plentiful and for a couple of extra euros she went to the supermarket to pick up ham and cheese to make us sandwiches for the next day's hike. The living room is a stunning modern take on alpine living, with a vast balcony and hot tub as well as open fire and separate tv area. This would be ideal for big groups in summer or winter, and we hope to bring our mountain bike club back next summer to enjoy Christine's company and Chalet. Highly recommended.

My wife and I joined two friends at this chalet on their recommendation. When we arrived (after having been picked up and transferred from the airport) we were greeted by the owner Christine. The chalet was spacious and very well appointed. Our skis and ski passes were sorted and the skis were the best we have ever rented. Everything about this chalet was superb. The clientele were mostly people who had been to the chalet before (what does that tell you) and were such fun. Whilst the chalet is not next to the slopes this was no problem because of the obliging service they provide too and from the lifts. There were also lovely bars near by should one want (including a home brew bar). The food, thanks to the chef Andy, was outstanding (yes, it really was and we are foodies). The service from the other chalet people was equally delightful. Anna was cheerful and attentive, Dan got us too and from the slopes/airport safely and Patrick the guide - what a hoot he was! He should do stand up! Finally, the owner Christine was wonderful and it was a real pleasure meeting her. Happily she joined us each evening for food and drink. She has some stamina! Oh, I almost forgot the massive soppy dog Max who you would frequently find on his back waiting for tummy tickles.
Overall we recommend this most highly.

Just returned from our xmas break and have to say we have had a wonderful time. We were really impressed from start to finish about everything. We were met at airport and transfered to Chalet promptly and efficiently. Christine made us feel so welcome and we have been happy and content all week. Food great (thanks Andy) and a big thanks to Anna for looking after us. If you are looking for a basic rabbit hutch chalet uncomfy beds surly staff and lots of rules and regulations this is not the place for you, on the other hand if you want spacious rooms, lovely bathrooms, good company food and wine I suggest you vist here.

From lifts direct to the slopes each day , a great ski guide Patrick and no request too much trouble we have had a great time.

My husband is a very picky person and the only complaint he had was there was too much food !!!!!!

So thanks Christine, Patrick Anna and Andy we had a great xmas and will be back.

Oh and We have fallen in love with Max and would have kidnapped him if only he would have fitted in suitcase !!!

Room Tip: All rooms lovely

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 night stay in La Chapelle d'Abondance. There for a friends wedding, we were lucky to find accommodation at Christine's chalet is available on a per room, per night basis as well as for weekly bookings of the whole chalet.

Travelling with two small children, Christine kindly booked us the biggest room which is actually a mini apartment that fitted us generously. In fact we all could have fitted in the enormous double bed which gave me the best nights' sleep I've had since having had our second child. We had a balcony with sensational views of the mountain. While situated in the centre of town, the chalet faces away from the bustle and all the accommodation is relaxed and peaceful.

Christine is the ultimate hostess, adapting in a calm but cheerful way to the needs of every guest. We could tell she would look after a group of party people just as well as she did us with our tiny children and husband who forgot to pack his tie for the wedding and who was provided with a lend from a friend of Christine's with impressive speed and efficiency and not so much as a blink of an eye.

My only, very small disappointment was with breakfast but I think this is because I am a greedy foodie and have expectations that are hard to match. My husband and oldest had everything they wanted from child friendly cereal to croissants to bacon sandwiches and truly, that was more important than my unrealised wish for something a bit more homemade or local which would match the quality of every other aspect of the chalet. If breakfast is a deal breaker, I would suggest discussing your preferences with Christine to see if something could be agreed in advance over choosing to stay anywhere else. This chalet is too good to miss.

We took a late booking at the very end of the ski season to Christine's chalet on a friends recommendation and were so glad that we did! Christine is a great hostess and, together with Patrick the ski guide, our family were all made to feel very welcome - they both went above and beyond the call of duty and we very much felt like we were with friends in their company.

The chalet offers first class accommodation, spotlessly clean, massive oober comfy beds and a never ending supply of piping hot water. Our room was massive and the ensuite had a large bath plus a separate shower big enough for a party! Hugh the chef produced restaurant quality food and Anna the chalet maid was both charming and bags of fun.

Ski conditions were much better than we had expected for the second week in April. There was still tons of snow and we had the pistes pretty much to ourselves although visability wasn't always great (the resort had more snow after we left!).

We're already planning a revisit with a larger group in 2013.

My wife and I spent a week in the chalet with a group of friends. We had a fantastic time and nothing was too much trouble for Christine and her team. We were dropped off, picked up, taken to a bar, whatever suited the group and always with a smile. The chalet is very spacious, well fitted out and has a relaxing atmosphere. The outdoor hot tub is a welcome and added bonus. During our week a few couples who we had not met before also stayed and with Christine's help it worked really well. Anything can be arranged for you be it a resturant booking, lessons, ski guide, whatever you need. It was a wonderful week, which I would highly recommend.
