“attrative chateau”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Great position with views over the Alps on one side and the Jura on the other. We had a most informative tour which described Voltaires latter years and philosophy. Beautiful gardens with a huge magnolia in majestic pink bloom.

“Check the opening hours”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

It's a lovely little museum set in beautiful grounds that were planted and designed by Voltaire. Check the opening hours, as it's only open for tours with a guide at certain times of day April to September.

“Interesting town”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

The chateau does not open on Mondays, which was when we visited Ferney Voltaire. It looked a nice building from the gate, and seemed to have pleasant gardens.
So this is more of a tip to visit the town's Tourist Office and pick up the self-guided walking tour leaflet - a model of its kind. The chateau is one of 18 sights on a circuit which should not take more than 90 mins.

“A Ferney landmark”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

What would Ferney-Voltaire be without the Voltaire chateau? You can have a French lesson with a tour of the interior or just enjoy the quiet gardens. The chateau hosts seasonal concerts, guest lectures, art exhibits, and an incredible independence celebration in July with food and live bands followed by fireworks choreographed to music.

“A nice day trip from Geneva”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

When you've had enough of the UN and Red Cross in Geneva, hop on an F bus behind Gare Cornavin and head to the pleasant suburb of Ferney-Voltaire. I highly recommend the guided tour "FERNEY-VOLTAIRE, A MAN-A TOWN" that starts at the tourist office in summer, which gives a very detailed account of Voltaire's development of the chateau and village of Ferney. The tour ends at the gates of the chateau whence you can enter and roam the very pleasant grounds for free. Alas, you cannot see the interior of the chateau without a tour (small fee), so you should check ahead for tour times.
