“If you can afford it go elsewhere, preferably nearer to Meribel Centre”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

Rooms cramped and not well cleaned, old decor in need of major upgrade, food average, service; hotel run by teenagers! Ski hire not bad! In one word, functional, but only just! Too far away from Meribel Centre. Olympic Gondola takes 10 mins but only runs till 17:30 & a cab journey will cost you 50 euros. Local bars OK.
If you can afford it go elsewhere! Otherwise make the most of what you get.

I have never travelled with Ski Weekends before, but it was recommended to me by a friend, and i am glad i took their advice.

The Coach was spacious and comfortable with friendly coach drivers, Kevin and Adam.

On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the Head Rep Holly, who then went on to sort me room ski and ski hire from the hotel. Breakfast was already set up with a selection of cereals and croissants. During the week there is a selection of cooked items as well.

The Rooms; They are basic rooms with on suit shower/bathroom, all with an outside area. The rooms were already made by the time i had eaten breakfast. Beds are made everyday by the hotel staff, but only hoovered at the beginning of your stay. Also i would advise, bring a spare towel and i stayed for a week and had to keep the same towel.

The Food; Breakfast is a substantial amount for a long days skiing with the option of taking away bacon/sausage rolls for the mountain. Lunch is provided at an extra cost of 8 euros, which consists of a baguette, crisps, fruit and a drink, but this has to be ordered the night before at dinner. Dinner was never the same each day!!! Food is basic and enough on the plate to fill you up. The only problem i have with the food is that some of it was cold on arrival to my table. The Resturant is also closed on a tuesday so we had to find elsewhere to eat. The Barman, Matt, recommended a pizzeria in town which was cheap and served amazing food.

The Staff; All the team that make up the Hotel Verseaus Staff are friendly and helpful and they are all willing to go the extra mile to make sure your stay is enjoyed. If you have any problems with your stay they try their best to sort it.

I have only one complaint about the staff, and that is when we were sat down to dinner on the Wednesday of our stay, we were witnessed to a older gentleman, who was sat eating and drinking on the table next to ours, stumble outside and urinate outside the restaurant in full view of other people eating. It then sounded like he got into a car and drove off. I am glad to say that not all the other staff behave in this manner and i hope it was a one off.

Entertainment; There was supposed to be live music on wednesday by an artist called Nick the fish, but we were later told that he had been double booked. There is a TV and pool table which can keep you amused for a good while, there is also music played through speakers during dinner and whilst at the bar chosen by Ollie.

The gondola, which takes about 25 minutes to get to meribel, is a 5/10 minute walk away from the hotel but the reps run shuttles in the morning and evening.

All in all a great stay at the Verseau hotel. I have already recommended it to my friends and colleagues.

Thanks to all the staff there Holly, Gary, Amy, Sam, Ollie, Gabby, Nic, Laura, Essie, Matt, Natalie and Danny.

Returned to Hotel Le Verseau and recieved a very cheerful welcome from Holly the head rep and the fun continued throughout the week. Very good value hotel, great food and friendly staff who where always there to help and played a full part in the entertainments. The skiing was excellent and the coach journey was very comfortable.

This is the 3rd time that we have stayed at the Hotel Le Verseau. I travel in a group and there was 54 of us this year. When we arrived our rooms were ready and that was a first. They re basis but met all our needs. The only downside was that the rooms had not been hoovered and did not get hoovered during our 6 day stay.
The staff were all lovely and helpful. My daughter is a fussy eater and they were always happy to make her something to eat. When we went for a meal and a night in Meribel Holly the head rep made sure that the restaurant (Jak's) in Meribel made her garlic bread and pizza, this ensured that i could enjoy our fixed price meal for 25 euro, 3 courses including steak and wine.
The food in the hotel was good but i have had better there, the staff did ask for our opinions and hopefully took that on board.
Overall this is a great base to ski out off Meribel. Yes it takes 20 to 25 minutes up to Meribel in the gondola, but a really good cheap option.
Thanks also must go to Kevin and Adam our coach drivers on the way home with Ski Weekends, very funny guys and made it a nice trip home.
Not sure if we will go back to this hotel again as we want something different next year.
Ski Weekends were great and we will be back all 54 of us and maybe more next year.

Stayed here during a weekend away organised by Skiweekends. The coach journey was very smooth and comfortable (and that is coming from someone with travel anxiety). We met Holly on route to the hotel who was in good spirits and plesant. Well organised to get you in and out on the slopes in record time and with a breakfast and collection of ski's and boots.
You are warned that the rooms have only had a quick clean enough for you to get in throw your ski gear on and get out on the slopes and they will be cleaned further once you are out. The ski school lesson's they organised with Paralell lines were brilliant. Fantastic instructors and very patient. The rooms are basic but warm, roomy and a big bathroom too. The decor is a little dated and could do with a lick of paint but as we spent so little time in the room this did not bother us. The only downside was the TV did not work but as I said before we weren't in our room apart from to sleep.
The staff are all young, chatty and always asked how your day was. The food was basic but did the job and filled you up with carbs ready for the hard days skiing ahead. The waiting staff were friendly and did their job well.
The bar was fairly priced. Would I come back here? Yes I probably would it's about the skiing not the hotel and for a cheap skiing weekend this is perfect.

I did a 6 day ski mid week trip early in Feb. the coach journey was fine (although a number of people found the movies played were very loud, so I would advise ear plugs).

My room was spacious and pleasant, if a little dated - but good for the price. it was a bit dirty with rubbish on the balcony and dirt in the bathroom.

The food was fine, and I think the chef did a good job with some poor ingredients. For example we had lamb chop, which had next to no lamb on it though good gravy, and another night I made the mistake of 'upgrading' to the steak, which was very tough. The service was always friendly.

I think the two biggest issues I had were the booking office at Skiweekends, who seemed fairly unhelpful and incompetent, and the way the staff at the hotel seemed unable to communicate with guests about issues. For example on our day of arrival the coach departing that evening was badly delayed, this was not explained well to them, and meant we had no welcome talk. No one then sad when the shuttles to the gondala ran each day, what to do on the day off departure or when our coach would depart on the final day.

Meribel is a great location to ski, though the 25 minute gondala up and down takes the shine off this.
