This hotel is right on the main square in town so the location is great. It is NOT city hotel, it's a hotel made up of several buildings with passages that wind throughout. If you've had too much to drink you may need help finding your room the room numbers seem randomly assigned. Do I sound like I'm complaining? No, I'm celebrating the uniqueness of the Hotel Burrhus, every room is different, it is an eclectic mesh of post-modern artistic retro funk. I would definitely stay again. It's a great way to break out of the sameness that typical travel hotels create. Go and let your hair down!

This was our second visit to Vaison to see the sights and stay in this hotel. If you like a non-chain arty hotel this is it. Each room is different and has a modern painting and is furnished and painted in 60's/70's style - plain block colours. Location very central with breakfast served on the first floor terrace overlooking the busy square. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Some rooms are a bit small but clean and it is not suitable for people with mobility problems because there are lots of stairs. The reception is on the first floor and you have to park in town car parks, There is a drop-off place to leave your luggage. Tuesday provencal market is huge and great. Local Roman ruins and museum very substantial.

Room Tip: Room 52 - three flights up but was spacious with lovely views of the square and the medieval town b...

My husband and I were traveling through France in May-June of 2012. Through much of our trip, we did not have hotel reservations, but just found places along the way. When we arrived in Vaison-la Romaine it was pouring rain and a bit dreary. We just walked into Hotel Burrhus based on one of the guide books we had with us. It was just the right amount of funky, with an incredibly helpful staff and lovely, clean rooms. The rooms are not fancy but they are clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the hotel's central location, as it is on one of the main squares. But the best part of our stay was the staff. They went out of their way to help make our stay there enjoyable.

In late September we were luckily able to just drive into the centre of the town and find a hotel. Being Tuesday, however, we could unpack our bags and then had to take the car to a carpark outside the centre as the Wednesday market would fill the square, streets & nearby carpark early the next day. The hotel was a little bit of a maze with stairs to go up and down but the rooms were spacious and clean. Ours had a little balcony but looked directly down into the restaurant below at the front of the restaurant. I was pleased that an awning was pulled over it at night but there was a little bit of noise from there. The restaurants were not only convenient for us but also served delicious food - sorry, can't remember the name of the one we chose. Vaison-la-Romaine is a lovely town with the old town & ruin on the hill well worth the climb for a wander. The Wednesday market is one of the best markets I've been to for food, clothes and ceramics - very extensive, colourful and interesting. The ice-cream shop on the square was great. The hotel breakfast was typically French and good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Prices vary according to size. The first room we saw was rather small so we paid just a little more...

We stayed at Hotel Burrhus as part of a 14-day Rick Steves tour group which we joined during a month long visit to France. The hotel location is great but it's a quirky place. My husband and I were glad the tour group restricts our luggage to one small suitcase each as the stairs were quite steep. The staff did offer to help anyone who required it. The floor of our room was a dirty sisal rug and the furnishings were very simple. No shower curtain. Bed was okay. It just depends on what you're used to. I saw many other customers who had previously stayed in hostels and some campers. They probably appreciated the hotel's amenities a great deal. The hotel staff tried their best to make us feel welcome. I asked for a hair dryer and was immediately presented with a brand-new one. An interesting stay in an interesting town.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Burrhus 2 nights in September while we "road-tripped" through the Cote du Rhone. Vaison-la-Romaine is a charming French village and the Hotel Burrhus is perfectly situated in the Ville Basse. You are within walking distance of everything and the hotel is right on a main square of the village. The rooms are very clean and decorated with a really original artistic flair. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the Hotel Burrhus if you are fortunate enough to find yourself in Vaison-la-Romaine!

My wife and I were surprised by this hotel .
The owner is an art lover .The place is covered with contemporary art , nothing touristic , it looks like an boutique hotel from one the big cities .
The price is great , and don't miss breakfast on the terrace , the view over the place is great .
Not convenient if one has lots of heavy luggage , because there's no lift.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our hotel is really an atypical establishment. All rooms are different, of a sober and elegant decoration. The design and the contemporary art occupy an important place for Burrhus. Everywhere you will cross original works of already confirmed artists. For twenty years, we organize numerous exhibitions of contemporary art and in particular since 2007, the for a weekend (2nd of december) "Supervues" which gathers in the hotel 35 artists who occupy all a room.In spite of this originality which makes of the hotel Burrhus an exceptional place we chose to stay in a range of completely reasonable and fixed prices. We attach a big importance for the fact that each feels good in Burrhus, of course, you, our customers but also: Susanne, Enrico, Zohra, Jemaa, Fabrice, Jocelyn, our devoted and nice staff who for several years trains our team. We hope to see you soon and to surprise you also by the quality of our breakfast at the 9€ price! ... more   less
