“Beautiful historic spot, lovely hotel”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

Beautiful medieval building and very spacious clean rooms, excellent and friendly service. The views were wonderful and the garden was lovely. Nice outdoor and indoor bar and eating area. There are no elevators and no ground floor rooms. Have a knee problem so got the rooms just one floor up and although the steep stone steps were not ideal, it was doable. Tea or drinks available anytime. It's located way high up in the old town. The Roman ruins are actually down below - you can walk or drive to get to them, but any walking back up to the old town will be steep. The whole experience was idyllic.

Room Tip: Be aware of steps - if that's an issue tell them you want the rooms just one floor about the lob...

This hotel was housed in 2 medieval buildings. Tamaris was on the ground floor, but up and down a few steps in the annex. The room had lots of character and was spacious and clean. Very comfortable king sized bed and a great view completed the package. It was a bit of a steep hike to the town, but well worth it. The pool and garden were a big plus.

The Le Beffroi was our first stop on our Walking the World trip. We all loved it there, the rooms were charming and the staff, especially Annette were second to none. Cheery and helpful, with anything.

We stayed at le Beffroi for three nights on a Rick Steves tour of eastern France. The hotel is located in the medieval section of the the town. Rooms are in two adjacent buildings built in the mid-1500s. Our tour bus parked in the town parking lot, and we walked up the hill to the hotel, while our luggage was transported by a small hotel van. Car access via the narrow cobblestone streets would be a bit more challenging, but parking is available.

Our room was in the reception building and was accessed by climbing a stone spiral staircase that charmingly evidenced 500 years of wear on the treads. Putting the skeleton key into the door revealed a beautiful, large room. Windows on three sides overlooked the lane in the front, as well as valley on the opposite side, the bell tower and the garden. Some rooms overlook the famed cycling destination of Mount Ventoux. The room was furnished with antique furniture and beautiful quilts. The ceiling was supported by huge, rough oak beams from the 1500s Wow! Break out the camera.

The second building has a pool terrace that overlooks the valley.

The staff was very friendly and efficient. The site is extremely quiet, but as noted by others expect the clock tower to chime on the hour.

I would love to return.

This was my fourth stay at Le Beffroi. I just love the Geranium room, it is a small, single, room but with a balcony overlooking the clock tower (yes it does chime every hour). The staff at the reception are absolutely delightful and with a great sense of humor. Breakfast is nothing special, but the outside garden and view are wonderful - great place to relax and have a drink with spectacular views of the city. The hotel does have a private parking area but I would recommend that you leave the car at the entry of the medieval city and walk up. The hotel is absolutely charming, each room is different and it is a wonderful experience. Le Beffroi has a restaurant in a lovely courtyard. I did not use the pool, but it is quite a luxury to have one in the center of the old city of Vaison and very welcome during the hot summer months.

Stayed for one night in August. Drove up without reservation and there were two rooms available. At 110 euros for decent room, great views, and a pool it isn't a bad deal. The building is old so rooms and stairways are not spacious. Access to the hotel can be tough if you have a large vehicle as it is at the top of the old part of town. The staff was friendly and helped show us the rooms and property. Breakfast was outside and a little over priced for what you got. On top of that the sweet foods were covered in bees. We walked 5 minutes to town and had breakfast at the square which was lovely.

Hostellerie Le Beffroi is on a cobblestoned laneway in the medieval cite of Vaison La Romaine. We got there by taxi which dropped us off in a little piazza about 100 metres from the hotel - he wasnt permitted to go any closer, apparently. The welcome was friendly and there were no issues with language - English was spoken. Our room was on the first level, up the winding ancient stone staircase, but had beautiful views over the river to the new town of Vaison. The room was of a reasonable size, with a small ensuite and high ceiling with wooden beams. We had breakfast in the hotel each morning and it was substantial and varied, with fruits juices, cereals, breads, pastries, cheeses, hams etc in a cafe overlooking a lovely garden. We didnt eat in the hotel's restaurant, prefering to eat in the town or at a nearby restaurant, which was excellent. The 15th century Ville Medieval is a spidersweb of cobblestone laneways and buildings leading up the the old castle on the ridge. There are only a very few shops, cafes and restaurants in the old town, for everything else you need to walk down the laneways and across the Roman bridge to the main town area; it takes about 10-15 minutes, longer on the way back to the hotel as it is uphill all the way! All in all, Le Beffroi was a lovely stay in Vaison.
