“Vacationing 3 weeks in Southern France”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

We arrived in the 3rd week of May 2012 and stayed for approximately 2 more weeks. Please be advised when traveling to this area, many people are attending an event. The event is about a procession/promenade of bringing the 'Madonna' to the Mediterranean. I had not researched this following and was shocked by the enormous amount of mobile homes. The small city Saintes Maries de la Mer was for one week completely trashed, meaning there was trash all over the streets. After the events and final Promenade the city was cleaned. We were able to take afternoon and night strolls on the boardwalk overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The surroundings were very beautiful with the beach just steps away from our rental. The rental itself was average value, however, much less the the cost of staying directly in the hotel. Our rental had some quality issues. The toilet was in a very small closet with an enormous water heater and cleaning supplies, making it difficult to remove clothing to use without opening the entry door first and after finishing one's business. The Kitchenette was extremely basic, also to be noted, there is only a stove with 2 burners, no Oven. This lack of provision is important to those wishing to bake foods ( naturally bake pans were not available for use). Restaurants have very well prepared and cooked meals, but unless one has a budgeted allowance for daily Menus running 11 Euros to 15 Euros per person and drinks at a cost of 3 Euros each, eating Pizza, sandwiches, and self-prepared meals fits an average food budget with visiting a restaurant 1 to 2 times a week. The furniture in our rental was not modern and the sofa was in desparate need of a fabric cleaner. The bed was very short in length ( my feet were not on the mattress unless sleeping on my side) and the mattress was very thin. One night table and lamp accompanied one side of the bed. In the Bath ( Tub & Sink, also towel warmer) the Tub did have a shower apparatus, but there was no fixture in which to hang the shower spout, so one must hold it in their hand when showering, and there were no towel hooks to hang towels excepting a small towel warmer to dry one towel at a time. The small flat-screen television ( apprx. 24 inches long-60.96 cm & 14 inches-36 cm in width) located in the Living room and mounted above a cabinet did not provide English or German channels ( All 22 channels were in French). There was no Wifi connection available in our rental despite the fact that our apartment was connected to the hotel ( steps away from the Hotel Lobby). Use of the Hotel Pool was free, use of the Hotel Spa & Exercise Rooms was 15 Euros per person /per Day. +++ The positive points were the beach accessibility, the Boardwalk, the small city including some shops (ie. for clothing), two food markets, and Restaurants. The Hotel Staff were average, excepting the younger attendants and a maintenance worker who was helpful with our Auto. The Hotel did not give suggestions on areas for site-seeing, although there is a Tourist Center in the city. Just a note about any of the boat tours ( Tiki-Paddle Tour and the Motor-Boat Tour) these are very expensive 24 Euros for the two of us, and unless one just likes to be 'on the water' it is not a sight-seeing tour as the Steer and Horses are Farmer's livestock and not wild. A tip for a sight-seeing spot is to drive to Avignon, about an hour drive. This is a historical city with much to see.

Room Tip: We rented a small ( 1 Bedroom, Living Room, Kitchenette, Bath with Tub & Sink (Toilet separate...

The hotel is located on the beach and very near the busy little town of Saintes Maries de la Mer.
I am sure it caters very well for its spa customers, but if you are not using the spa facilities, then it is very average. The room was a good size, and the hotel quiet at night.
The breakfast buffet was excellent, but we didn't eat in the restaurant in the evenings.
We came back from a meal at 11.30 one night to find the front door locked and no-one at reception to answer the door bell or phone calls, and it took us over 20 mins to raise a staff member to let us in.

We stayed here for six days in August 2011. Saintes-Marie itself is a lovely and very relaxing town. It has good beaches, plenty of restaurants, some interesting history and a pleasant pedestrian district. The Camargue plains, Aigues-Mortes, etc. are closeby.
The setting of the hotel is perfect. The hotel is located on the edge of town but within easy walking distance of the centre, even with a small child in tow. It has a fine swimming pool and it is literally one minute's walk across to a small sandy beach where swimming, even with a small child, is safe.
The room we had was of a fine size with a large balcony. The room was very basic but adequate, taking into account that this is a three star hotel. On the downside, there were bat droppings on the balcony so we weren't too happy about having our son playing on the floor on the balcony alone. We opted for the breakfast buffet, which we found excellent. The views over the sea in the mornings while eating breakfast were a pleasure. We didn't eat here in the evenings as there are so many restaurants in the town itself offering better value.
There are many spa facilities on offer at the hotel but we didn't use any of these.
The main criticism we would have of the hotel is that it has a generally battered look about it. It is a large place and obviously has many, manys guest passing through. It is obvious that their maintenance is inadequate to cope with this...broken doors in the corridors, dirty carpets, etc. As I said, the room itself was fine but the common areas were battered and in severe need of a good clean and a facelift.
However, all in all, very good value for money and we would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is nicely situated for the beach, but is away from the central part of Saintes Maries. The town is hardly big, so that's probably not too much of the problem. The hotel is in need of redecoration. Our hotel room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The were no shutters to the windows, and our room facing the sea and the promenade allowed light to come in even with the thick curtains drawn.

I think if the sun is shining the hotrel would be more appealing, but it's cold and windy whilst we were there.

The breakfast buffet was barely adequate.

I think for those staying for the thalassothyerapie the hotel is probably, just, worth it. It's always convenient to have on site facilitities, but I really would look elsewhere if syaing in Saintes Maries again.
