Amazing church in small town. Built between 9th and 12th centuries. You can also pay 2.50 euros to climb the 55 steps to the top of the roof of the church. Amazing view of the Camargue when you arrive on top.

The history of this church and especially of the saints to whom it is dedicated is fascinating. Three women who supposedly came from Palestine after being witnesses to the crucifixion. The(?) two Marys and their Egyptian servant, Sarah.

The church was once the third most sacred site in Christianity, marking the place where the saints Mary Magdelene, Mary Salome (the mother of the apostles James and John), Mary Jacobe (Jesus's aunt), Martha and her brother Lazarus, St Maximin, and St Sidonius along with the Gypsy s Sainte Sarah all arrived from Judea on a boat without sails or oars but driven by God to bring the Gospel to France.

how can you put to words a feeling so strong this church evoked? its beauty lies in its simplicity and its attraction in the easy way the black virgin is so accessible. The feeling of peace and divinity in this place left me weeping silently and the charm in its architecture left me speechless......its a place of pilgrimage for many and now i understand why.....
