Walking along the sea front at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer there are, as you'd expect, a pile of cafés and restaurants. We'd tried a few before and not been very impressed. Figuring they are "much of a muchness" we picked the restaurant nearest the car this time, a bit off the beaten track toward the end of the promenade. What a good choice!
The restaurant looks fairly humble, and the pricing is reasonable, so we were set for all-so-ran sea front food (most of these places don't try too hard) but we were wrong. Waiter was very friendly, full of advice on what to try, the food was fantastic, big, generous plates of seafood, amazing sauces, really excellent. The interior of the restaurant was plain, but clean, and the facilities were well kept.
In short, small restaurant, doesn't look like anything special at first glance but clearly very well run by a dedicated team who care about customer satisfaction and quality. Highly recommended if you find yourself on the sea front wondering where to go for a nice sit-down lunch that won't cost the earth.
