“Lovely relaxing stay”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights in September and had a very nice room on the 1st floor with views over the marsh and flamingos in the distance.

The centre of Saintes Maries is full of shops, bars and restaurants and takes 5 minutes by car - there's lots of parking, mostly free - and about 15 minutes on foot. We don't really do breakfast so €20 in the hotel was a touch extravagant, but there were plenty of places in town to take a coffee and pain beurre for a few euros. Lots of different choices for dinner; some good, some pretty dire....

We only dined in the restaurant once, but it was close to being the nicest meal we had during our 3 week trip; I didn't feel that €50 per head was excessive for a 5 course dinner. The restaurant is very comfortable, with well-spaced tables and excellent service with an extensive and well-priced wine list. It was a lovely evening, slightly marred by some very badly behaved kids (probably not French then).

The hotel is very convenient for the Parc Ornithologique de Pond de Gau; pleasant even if you're not an avid birdwatcher and there are horse-riding places close by.

Mosquitos are a bit of a problem all over the Camargue, particularly after dusk, so don't forget your insect repellent!

Room Tip: First floor rooms have nice views and balconies.

I would return to this hotel but feel that dinner at 50 Euro per person is too expensive.
The rooms are good & large with nice bathroom.
Other facilities include large terraces and nice smimming pool . An additional new pool and additional rooms are in course of construction.

I stayed here because of its close proximity to town and wasn't disappointed by its location.... but I would not return in August when the town is too loud and crowded. There are several nice resorts in the marshes but they are not close to the center of town -- so you have to pick whether you want to stay at a completely rural place or something within walking distance of the town. As an aside, the Camargue is beautiful and I would recommend driving through it if you are in the area.... but I wouldn't necessarily put it at the top of the list to visit in France. Also, as a town, Aigues Mortes is nicer than Les Stes Marie.

Pros:
Beautiful property
Peaceful
Family-friendly (they have large rooms with multiple beds)
Nice, spacious room
Delicious breakfast (at 20 Euro)
Secured parking
In the middle of the Camargue
Very nice service

Cons:
Family-friendly (Not quiet at all during August)
Walkable to town... but on a dodgy road especially at night
Slightly run-down
Needs a fitness center

We booked this supposedly 4 star hotel to spend two nights there as part of a week's visit to the Camargue and Provence.

The hotel is easy to find, located just off the main road leading to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and it is situated just on the edge of an extensive marsh which is also home to clouds of mosquitoes and other insect life.

The car park is difficult to enter with a very tight 90 degree bend so you need to cake care and drive in very slowly.

Friendly reception staff showed us down a gloomy, uneven and smelly corridor, with a rag of a carpet, to our room which thankfully was clean and spacious. We brought in our own cases on a trolley provided. Disappointing service for a four star hotel.

We quickly realised that we were sharing our very expensive but nice room with a number of the resident mosquito community which sat on the ceiling and walls. Despite our best efforts to exterminate them, we woke next morning with lots of bites.

Our bedroom looked on to a rather unkept lawn and a number of overhanging trees and overgrown bushes around our window made the room dark and enclosed. Clearly, we had been allocated one of the poorer rooms in the establishment. Our inability to lock our sliding doors leading on to the lawn made us concerned about security matters as we were on the ground floor.

We did not eat in the hotel as the cost of the continental breakfast at 20 euro per person was extortionate in our view and and the dinner menu was equally pricey with a starter and main course totaling 55-60 euros per person before a dessert, wine and coffee were added. The hotel food may have been excellent but we ate very well for a fraction of the cost in small restaurants in the nearby town which was 5 minutes away by car.

For us this was not a good experience and we have no intention of revisiting the Mangio Fango
hotel. Thankfully the other 5 days of our holiday were lovely and we had really perfect places to stay.

Room Tip: Avoid room 3!

This was a last minute find, I called the night before to make a reservation. The room was beautiful with an extra sitting area with view on the marsh. The bed was very comfortable, and even adjustable if necessary. Dinner was a highlight, in a tastefully decorated main room. I had one of the best tart tatins ever. The heated pool and the hot tub increase the value of this place. Plus you can walk to the town from there.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a private garden

Thaïs hôtel impressed me with à confortable lux
Is that type of place where you get the best services while you're in pajama, half naked or wearing your most old broken tshirt .
Fells like a private property rented not like a hotel, you're free to take naked dipping in the sea in the middle of the night too or dance with your spouse in the nights silence, France is a place for romance and freedom but done with discretion.
Great deserts

This hotel is a real gem, a short way out of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Excellent setting with our large comfy room opening onto the garden. There was a pond outside with a resident heron! Everywhere was clean and attractively decorated. Outdoor pool was clean and warm, and the hot tub very pleasant. There is lots to do in the area, and we enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. The evening meal was exquisite, so good we ate there twice, but had to have one day off coz there is an abundance of delicious food!. One slight criticism would be the price of the breakfast. Although again the food and choice was excellent, I'm not sure it was worth 20 Euros. Be sure to visit the bird park, just up the road, for an amazing array of flamingos, herons, waders etc. Easy to spend 4 hours there.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 6 overlook pond, and swimming pool
