Villa Marie is part of Sibuet Hotels & Resorts, and each property reflects Jocelyn Sibuet's truly extraordinary aesthetic. Some years ago, I also stayed at Bastide de Marie in Menerbes (in the Luberon region of Provence) and that 2+ week stay remains a highlight of my travel-life.
Villa Marie is in Ramatuelle, about 3-4 km from the center of St. Tropez, and so it offers guests all the excitement of that jet set destination with a measure of peace and quiet. I visited in September, after peak season. The weather is still extraordinary but the crowds have thinned notably. It is the best time to visit St. Tropez, I believe.
Unfortunately, the aesthetics of Villa Marie were not matched by what should be luxurious service. There were teams of young men in uniforms everywhere, but few seemed to understand that they were in service to the guests. The shower stall had mold in it that wasn't cleaned during our 4-night stay. The light switch in the bathroom was broken and wasn't noticed by housekeeping until we requested (twice) a repair. And as we struggled with our bags on departure, those same young men just smiled at us without offering to help.
The Concierge was helpful but the wait for assistance was long. We rented motor scooters during our stay, which were arranged by the Concierge. We are experienced riders and had absolutely no problems with them, but after returning them, we were informed by the Concierge that we must had dropped them and would be charged a repair fee. When I insisted we had not "dropped" them, he assured me that the company was honest. (Was that to suggest that I was not?)
The restaurant is very beautifully decorated but children ran around loudly with no comment from either parents or staff, which made the evening quite unpleasant, and as a result, we did not dine there again, though each time we passed anyone with food & beverage responsibilities, they asked us (insistently) if we needed a reservation for dinner.
Breakfast is buffet style but at 35€ (about $46) per person, it is predictably expensive for a five-star hotel. The offering is standard Continental breakfast fare, though you may order eggs if you can stand the wait, and getting a second pot of coffee required the patience of a saint. We ate breakfast twice though on check-noted that we'd been charged for four breakfasts (of course, corrected, but again, a reflection of inadequately trained staff).
Perhaps our disappointment was a function of our very high expectations based on our Bastide de Marie stay, but I can honestly report that I found Villa Marie a feast for the eyes...yet service left me wanting more.
We extended our stay in St. Tropez but opted for another hotel, which at (literally) twice the price, was a much better buy.
