What a find! We had dinner here in July '09. We left our hotel and just cruised the streets looking for a good place to eat. Café Valmer was busy - always a good sign - so in we went. Despite being very busy - full to capacity - the staff were attentive, charming and helpful. We sat at a lovely table outside and were served initiallly a guy whom I took to be the owner. His English was excellent despite my insistence on speaking French. He was flying around the place all night welcoming people, checking they were happy and still had time to check on us two or three times throughout the evening.
We shared a large bowl of mussels to start with - they were excellent. We both then had Tuna steaks drenched in a really delicious sauce; mouth - watering! Wine was fabulous - local Rosé of course. We couldn't resist having pudding, it was our holiday after all, and we both opted for chocolate fondant. This was cooked to perfection and reamins one of the best I've ever had. Others in the restaurant were eating big Langoustine, Lobster, Scallops and Sea-Bass which all looked amazing.
We also got chatting to the people on the table next door - two ladies out for a girly night who'd left their husbands baby-sitting their grandchildren. Both charming and friendly. The atmosphere was fun and light-hearted and the place is really well decorated and very comfortable.
We were en route to our house near Ste Max about forty minutes' drive from La Croix Valmer and would not hestitate to make the trip in future to re-visit this wonderful, unpretentious and charming place. You must visit this place for the best sea-food in town!
