Had a wonderful meal here with no complaints and nothing but praise. The staff and young and friendly. Good at their jobs which is wonderful. The location overlooking the harbour has great views and both inside and outside the restaurant is good for eating. The food is well cooked, delicious and well presented. A must if you come to Le Ciotat and not quite sure why this restaurant is not rated as No 1 - it should be.

I have been staying in La Ciotat in the shipyard on a boat for six months. I've tried lots of little restaurants in town, but somehow only thought of Au Chantier for drinks. I heard they had a new chef and I should give it a go, and I'm so glad I did!!! The food was excellent, the service was attentive and came with a smile, even though three out of four of our group didn't speak any French, and the wine was a moderately priced, full bodied Bandol. As it is winter, we sat inside and it was warm and cozy, with floor to ceiling windows, and cathedral ceilings, beautiful! My scallops were perfectly cooked, lots of color on the outside and soft, moist and sweet on the inside. The mousseline that the scallops were served in was light and oh so flavoursome. And the parsnip and potato mash was a perfect compliment. I would have preferred an additional scallop and less mash, but the dish was beautiful and I can't wait to get back and try the rest of the menu.

Having visited La Ciotat briefly for one night last year, we were pleased to see some new restaurant choices. Au Chantier has a fabulous setting, with a terrace and dining room above the harbour with superb views.

Staff were young, efficient, professional and very welcoming and the food was stunning. We had a long lunch during a stormy day and were so impressed we booked again for that evening. Diners appeared to be mostly local regulars, being greeted by staff, but we were equally welcomed as tourists.

We had pan-fried tuna for lunch, which was delicious, accompanied by plenty of wine, which at between 2.5 and 4 euros a glass was the best value we had in a quality restaurant during our stay in the area. We went back for dinner and both had tuna tartare starters – delicious and generously sized! We then had beef fillet – one grilled with frites and one with au poivre sauce with gratin dauphinoise – all perfect.

The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, otherwise we would have gone back the next day!
