Having visited La Ciotat briefly for one night last year, we were pleased to see some new restaurant choices. Au Chantier has a fabulous setting, with a terrace and dining room above the harbour with superb views.
Staff were young, efficient, professional and very welcoming and the food was stunning. We had a long lunch during a stormy day and were so impressed we booked again for that evening. Diners appeared to be mostly local regulars, being greeted by staff, but we were equally welcomed as tourists.
We had pan-fried tuna for lunch, which was delicious, accompanied by plenty of wine, which at between 2.5 and 4 euros a glass was the best value we had in a quality restaurant during our stay in the area. We went back for dinner and both had tuna tartare starters – delicious and generously sized! We then had beef fillet – one grilled with frites and one with au poivre sauce with gratin dauphinoise – all perfect.
The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, otherwise we would have gone back the next day!
