“Location, location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2011

The last two nites of our trip to france were spent here. Nothing booked in advance and the tourist office was closed. Some locals told us the hotels near the water were cheaper than the ones up the hill. We walked to the first hotel which was this one and got a room with two beds for around 80 euro a nite and we were happy. The first night was noisy with people hanging around outside until around 2am; no establishments were open. Around 6am the street cleaners were hard at work! This is the reason the rooms near the water are more expensive. Having the location during the day to walk around and come back to your room was worth the noise at night.

When we arrived at this town we couldn't believe the crowds and that you can't even drive close to the water unless you are staying there. There were police and barricades directing cars away from the water front. The city parkade had a sign showing you when a spot was available so you didn't drive around looking for one - you wait at the entrance instead. A little tricky when you leave, you need to pay first, before driving to the exit and the place to pay was also a little hard to find. Others were having the same issues.

Due to the parking in this town we rented our room then got out of town to explore the coast a bit before coming back that evening to park the car. Good idea! The garage is as packed as it was in Paris. The hotel clerk walked to where we had to park(after we unloaded our luggage), showed us where to park and how to lock up once we had our car parked. We didn't move our car again until the morning we left.

My husband and I let the kids sleep in while we got up early for a walk to the beach (only ones there) and then went for a small breakfast. The sun was very hot even in May and my son and husband were sunburnt sitting at the beach for barely 2 hours. Again the location of the hotel to the beach is excellent. Close enough to have a quick shower before going out to eat or to run back to drop off shopping.

All the hotel clerks we came across were very friendly. We went out for dinner our last night and when we returned the male clerk made a comment to my husband that he must have enjoyed the wine due to his red face. When we told him it was due to sunburn we all had a good laugh!

We decided -without consulting tripadvisor- to stay in this hotel for a weekend. The room was clean and decent, nothing special but had a nice balcony overlooking the picturesque port and petanque park. The shower was good and staff friendly. They've got secure parking around the corner. Walking distance to all beaches, shops, and restaurants. Staying in high-season on a port-side hotel is probably asking for noise, so bring earplugs if you're staying in high-season or on weekends.

This hotel is fine with proper expectations.
Pros: Decent price, location right in the port, clean, simple
Cons: Because of good location it can be noisy at night and early in the morning - street cleaning, market setup on Wed and Fri, strange internet policy (have to ask for it to be turned on).

The rooms themselves are fine. For a historic, beach town, a very acceptable hotel.

For the price, we found this hotel excellent. If you can get a room at the font you'll have an excellent view.. If not, take a room at the back as we did but spend a long time over breakfast. Breakfast is served in a closed, glass verandah right on and overlooking the harbour. Our (French) breakfast was excellent and served by a delightful, smiling waitress. The price and the location overshadowed any small negative points we could mention. In a town like this and in a location like this, a hotel offering rooms for less than €100 is a good find.

My husband says I should start with recommending everyone go to Cassis to drink the pastis...I think you should go for the cute shops, delicious food, glorious sun and stunning beach:)

This is certainly not the most up to date or fancy of hotels, however, the location is perfect for those who want to be close enough to everything-beaches and shops especially. You can rent a chair at the beach and run back to your own room for a quick break if needed. The sun can get pretty intense during July (we are from Michigan) but the water is refreshing in an arctic sort of way. There is something about the stones, the salt water and the frigid beach water that relaxes and awakens at the same time.

We ate a few restaurants right on the marina but our favorite was a little restaurant a few streets back and down the alley...will search for the name and try to make a different post. Cassis is a great, mostly French vacation place. Most of the restaurants offered an English menu (most only had one translated menu so my husband often had to pass his over when another English-speaking couple arrived). It was a great work-out for my rusty French-speaking skills, but I really enjoyed it in the way that I was the main translator and my husband had to rely on me for most of the questions/ordering and directions that we did.

We took the Calanques tour (the shortest tour was plenty of sight-seeing for us) and have many great photos because of it. The city has many cute shops and also an outdoor market that I believe is set up on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are quite a few local caves and our cab driver from the Marseille train station took us to the Paternelle Cave and we made some great purchases. We really enjoyed the Blanc de Blanc de Cassis and the rose from the region as well. These were great inexpensive wines and it was fun to try all the variations at the different bars and cafes. There is a great gelato store near the Liataud, not sure if it was a chain or not, but it was the first time I had tasted it and I fell head over heels for it!

We also stayed at the Best Western La Rade-which was nice because of the pool, but the location of the Liataud was much better. The Liautad was well-priced at less than $100 US per night, and it looked like you could probably find a cheaper room there if you booked in advance (we booked that morning for the evening stay). There were a couple of room/floors that used a group bathroom, but we opted for a small double bed with private bath. I don't think that we took any room photos, but I will post o few pics of the city and our view. The room had air, shower bath, window and tv. The bed was comfortable and the desk staff was quite helpful in helping us secure a taxi for our early morning departure.

We plan on returning to Cassis and will most likely stay a couple of nights in Liauaud because of the excellent location and charming staff!

This hotel is in the perfect location. We had a wonderful view of the harbor. The bathroom had a shower, but the bed was very hard and only had a long round pillow for both people to share. The carpet was disgusting and hadn't been changed in years. For Europe, its worth putting up with for the great location and reasonable price.

We were nervous about booking at the Hotel Liautaud because of some poor reviews in Trip Advisor but we found it was cheap and clean and above all in a wonderful position. Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the port. All life is going on beneath you and you step into the centre of Cassis as you leave the hotel. The beach is two minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay there.
