The last two nites of our trip to france were spent here. Nothing booked in advance and the tourist office was closed. Some locals told us the hotels near the water were cheaper than the ones up the hill. We walked to the first hotel which was this one and got a room with two beds for around 80 euro a nite and we were happy. The first night was noisy with people hanging around outside until around 2am; no establishments were open. Around 6am the street cleaners were hard at work! This is the reason the rooms near the water are more expensive. Having the location during the day to walk around and come back to your room was worth the noise at night.
When we arrived at this town we couldn't believe the crowds and that you can't even drive close to the water unless you are staying there. There were police and barricades directing cars away from the water front. The city parkade had a sign showing you when a spot was available so you didn't drive around looking for one - you wait at the entrance instead. A little tricky when you leave, you need to pay first, before driving to the exit and the place to pay was also a little hard to find. Others were having the same issues.
Due to the parking in this town we rented our room then got out of town to explore the coast a bit before coming back that evening to park the car. Good idea! The garage is as packed as it was in Paris. The hotel clerk walked to where we had to park(after we unloaded our luggage), showed us where to park and how to lock up once we had our car parked. We didn't move our car again until the morning we left.
My husband and I let the kids sleep in while we got up early for a walk to the beach (only ones there) and then went for a small breakfast. The sun was very hot even in May and my son and husband were sunburnt sitting at the beach for barely 2 hours. Again the location of the hotel to the beach is excellent. Close enough to have a quick shower before going out to eat or to run back to drop off shopping.
All the hotel clerks we came across were very friendly. We went out for dinner our last night and when we returned the male clerk made a comment to my husband that he must have enjoyed the wine due to his red face. When we told him it was due to sunburn we all had a good laugh!
