“Stay away.”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

How this establishment is able to attract so many customers every day is incomprehensible. My wife and I tried a meal after recommendations from a few friends and were extremely disappointed.
The staff was disorganized, unwelcoming and bar two servants, sour and frankly just impolite and unfriendly. The food is edible at best, but only just. The atmosphere is far better at McD’s and you’ll get much more value for your money at any of the local snack-bars on the corners in Cassis. For us, the only positives of the evening were the quality of the house-wine, and that the second waiter that managed to spill his tray in my lap actually apologized.

We tried two different salads for starters, the simple tomato and mozzarella was ok, the Exotique was anything but exotic with curry-flavored stale chicken. The house “special” of moule gratinee was just a lot of melted cheese with some mussels well hidden in-between, and the Brochette de Gambas still contained the intestines. We managed to escape before desserts and will never ever return.

“Unpretentious, good quality”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

We went here a couple of times when we were in Cassis, initially because because it was cheaper, again because it was good no frills food.

It is a bit rough around the edges, but friendly and wholesome, which we liked. My theory is that the level of quality for French food is already so high (by comparison to what we get in the UK), that after a certain point you are just paying for largely superfluous, if not pretentious, additions to your dish.

As an example; we went to a designer restaurant in Marseille where I was served small chewy mussels, half of which were dead. After complaining I was brought out another batch, this time with 1/4 of them dead. It was terrible.

At Le Perroquet I was served a good kilo of big chunky fresh mussels, replete with barnacles stuck to them and cheap mayonnaise. This was washed down with a couple of well-priced Leffes, and I couldn't have been happier.

“Avoid, don't waste your time”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

Cassis is beautiful, this restaurant is just awful. Poor service, confused staff. Mussels may have been precooked in a salt solution the day before. They were dry, salty, chewy, smelly and nasty. Obviously microwaved. Ordered pizza with an egg. Pizza was cold and egg completely raw. Lots of confusion going on on who ordered what. Could not handle a table of six. Place was crowded. Why? Lot's of people just drinking. Drink here if you want but eat somewhere else. 16 days in Europe. This was the biggest disappointment by far.

“Truly horrible; stay away”
Reviewed September 17, 2011

Came here for lunch as it looked reasonably popular and it's in a good location along the port. First mistake!!
Horrible meal with pitiful salads and mussels that were less-than-fresh. Service was atrocious and server stopped to take a smoke break between our asking for the check and forgot about us. We've never had a bad meal in France until this one. Also they try to upsell you and give you a hard time 'no coffee? no dessert? if you dont' order more...very uncomfortable feeling. Rumor has it that they have been taken off the list of restaurants recommended by the Cassis travel bureau and that people have gotten sick eating here. I don't know if that's true, (we were fine) but it's still nonetheless a place to avoid. Don't chance it. Go the grocery store and get a baguette and some cheese and eat by the Calanques if other places are busy.
