We found this restaurant walking through Cassis old town and were very pleasantly suprised. The setting in the narrow street was lovely, the tables were set nicely, the chairs had very comfortable cussions... Service was very friendly, personal (the owners themselves) and knowledgable (wine recommendations were great).
And now to the most important: a very delicious menu for a reasonable price! 100 Euros for 2: tapenade, amouse bouche, freshly baked bread, starter, main course, dessert / cheese, coffee and a bottle of wine.
For us one of the best price/quality meals in Provence and definitely the best price / quality choice in Cassis!

We obviously hit one of Patrick's 'off days'. We waited over 30 mins just to get a menu, and no offer of drinks to keep us happy. Eventually, orders were taken but the dish my husband had been really looking forward to - pieds et pacquets - was off. And this was from a very limited menu with few alternatives. No apology, no suggestion of a recommended alternative, and when my husband said that was what we had come for (and had waited nearly an hour for by that time), the waiter (a late middle aged man) said 'it's busy tonight, do you expect to be served before people who came before you?' We were not alone in this experience (and speak good French); everyone was getting poor, if not rude service, including a family who were obviously old friends of the owners. We overheard the waiter saying to another table who were clearly fed up too that there was 'a little confusion in the kitchen'. Any professional manager would have apologised to all customers if there was a problem and probably offered a drink on the house, to keep us sweet. The food was OK but by the time it finally arrived (90 minutes after sitting down) we were in no mood to be impressed. Madame,when she came out to serve and clear, did her best to smile sweetly through the night, but never aplogised or explained, only solicited compliments for the food. Altogether, it struck us as a place that may have a good cook, looks the part (it is pretty), but has a compacent, amateurish staff who are in, over their heads. We had no intention of paying the (discretionary) service charge but had to wait an age for any change to come back from the 'cash only' bill. The experience left a sour taste in our mouths.

Say what you will about the anachronistic tradition of tipping in the U.S., but Fleur de Thym is one of those rare occasions where this lifelong restaurant worker wishes he could vote with his gratuity! This evening felt like one of those stories you read about where the English speaking couple with very little French language ability gets treated to a uniquely French dining experience. Compared to the warm, friendly and thoughtful welcomes we experienced in the Vaucluse, our dinner in Cassis was a huge letdown. It served as a great reminder as to why I treat ALL of my international guests with the same hospitality as our local regulars. Enough about that, the basics follow:
* decent bread and tapenade
* awful wine list, tiny, a bit overpriced and worst of all mislabeled, with a bottle of "Bandol" we ordered arriving pre-opened and from Cotes-de-Provence. It was hot, volatile and definitely not delicious nor worth €27
* food was mediocre at best, regional certainly but nothing special
* excruciatingly slow service, and I'm used to and aware of the normal pace of a French restaurant. We were ignored, it was obvious and it was unpleasant
In conclusion, one of the worst $160 (~€125) meals I've ever had

I have eaten at FdT perhaps 20 times.

Patrick and his mother are Fleurs de Thym. She cooks ... wonderfully ... and he runs the dining room. Patrick has his good days and some not so good. But the food is the best in Cassis.

In summer, it's much fun to eat outside. In winter, cozy and warn inside.

After eating flavorless and boring food on the water front go to Fleurs de Thym and enjoy some local home cooking. Not fine dining but comforting local cuisine. The white bean amuse bouche was superb, the toast and tapenade classic, the fish fresh. Mother and son operation, no credit cards.
