Valerie runs more than just a simple B&B; L'escale is a home away from home. First, she speaks lovely English and is quick to welcome Americans; second, she knows Cassis well and is generous with her insider information including the best Bouillabaise in town; and third, she is willing to go the extra mile to make your stay a comfortable one. When we first arrived, I was a little put off by Cassis itself, but my worries soon went away when she made us feel so welcome. Then, after dinner in Toulon, we awoke to one of the very best breakfasts we had in three weeks in France: fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, delicious breads, croissants, homemade jams, yogurt, and, to top it off, American pancakes! What more could you ask for? Well, sitting on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. We've had a good deal of experience staying at B&B's in the states, and I must say that L'Escale rivals each and every one of them. And, then, there's the view: Cap Canailles looms out over the harbor like a proud ocean liner set to go to sea...and it continually caught my eye (and my camera's lens) from the gated entrance to our private patio to the terrace where we had breakfast. Above all, though, it's the quality of the service, and that is why we were so very, very pleased with l'Escale. Merci bien, Valerie.
