“Disappointed”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

Starter of onion tart was wonderful . Mains fish dish was good but very small portion . Accompanying vegetables unpleasnt due to excess fennel flavour . We had the most expensive rose wine on the menu but it was decidely ordinary . Resaturant is off the main drag up a side street so atmosphere lacking

“Not a bad dinner, but also not impressed”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

We were looking forward to finishing off a gorgeous day at the Calanques with an outstanding dinner. Unfortunately, our dinner at Le Calendal was far from the perfect end to a perfect day. The place is famous for its bouillabaisse, however the famous bouillabaisse has to be ordered a day in advance. Bummer! Instead, we ordered one of their other soup options. The scallops were decent, but the mussels and shrimp didn't taste fresh and the soup lacked a depth that we've come to expect from a well-executed bouillabaisse. Another dish we ordered- the dorado- was prepared well, but the vegetables on the side seemed to be an afterthought with chewy, overcooked potatoes. A bright spot was the good service and in addition, we were pleased with the entree, the wine and the extras that came with the meal. For how much we paid (35 euros for the soup!) the main dishes fell short of expectation.

Delicious food, superb soupe de poisssin, magret, all kinds of appetizers, charming, boisterous Joel, host and owner. Very good value, lots of locals, loads of charm.

“Great end to a lovely day in Cassis”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Lovely setting in a quiet back street off the port. For a Sunday night the restaurant was very popular and we were lucky to get one of the last tables there. The staff were very friendly, good service and great food. The seabream prepared in front of you was delicious and filling. The starters were parfait! Little touches like bringing extra bread without having to ask and the sweets and biscuits offered with the bill made this restaurant stand out from the others on our trip. I can't understand why there are any bad reviews as this is a 5 star establishment.

“Deserves to be No. 1!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

If you can share the owner's enthusiasm for his restaurant and join in with all the bonhomie with which he regales diners as his friends, this is a great find. The food is to match and not over-priced. Definitely on our recommendation list.
