“Great end to a lovely day in Cassis”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Lovely setting in a quiet back street off the port. For a Sunday night the restaurant was very popular and we were lucky to get one of the last tables there. The staff were very friendly, good service and great food. The seabream prepared in front of you was delicious and filling. The starters were parfait! Little touches like bringing extra bread without having to ask and the sweets and biscuits offered with the bill made this restaurant stand out from the others on our trip. I can't understand why there are any bad reviews as this is a 5 star establishment.

“Deserves to be No. 1!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

If you can share the owner's enthusiasm for his restaurant and join in with all the bonhomie with which he regales diners as his friends, this is a great find. The food is to match and not over-priced. Definitely on our recommendation list.

“Definitely not No 1 restaurant in Cassis”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

1st night we went to Le Chaudron which was fantastic 2nd night was Le Calendal and we were disappointed. Food wasn't great service was terrible, the locals were offered per dinner nibbles we weren't and we ordered Champagne and to top it of it was cash only no card machine available. Another 7 nights in cassis and having a lovely holiday but will not be going back to this one!!

“Good food if you don't mind fish bones but inconsistent service let down the experience.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Not busy on a Sunday night in September until 9 pm. Full of French speakers (not sure if locals or French tourists). Greeted by friendly waiter who was keen to help us with English translations of menu even though we were happy to interpret on our own. My fiancée and I both ordered a lovely entree and grilled whole fish main which was filleted in front of us (fun) but still had several bones left for us to eat around. Ordered a pastry of the day which was pastry with raspberry and cream but the real treat was the Blackcurrant sorbet which didn't properly complement the raspberry but was really good! Also, complimentary marshmallows and Biscotti was a nice touch but felt like one of the waiters was making fun of us to other patrons because our French was not very good and also went on a smoke break before collecting our payment while the other waiter ignored us and chatted to the patron next to us.

“Such a refreshing change to the "churn 'em in, churn 'em out" restaurants on the waterfront”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We took the recommendation from TripAdvisor for this restaurant. We made a reservation and turned up on time to be seated outside this quaint little restaurant. The welcome was warm and we were greeted by a happy restaurant owner and his wife. From the outset, it was clear that this was the place to be eating in Cassis. The atmosphere was excellent and we quickly went about ordering our food and drink. The service was timely but not pushy. The wine we ordered was wonderfully cool and the starters set a high standard for the main course.

Although the restaurant was in high demand, we never felt rushed or pressured to finish a course or our drinks. We found the portions to be very generous in France, so a little time between courses is often a good idea. Our main courses were very well cooked and our evening was rounded off with a lovely leisurely glass of Cognac and a chat with the proprietor, who was rightly proud of his restaurant's reputation and standing in Cassis.

Apart from a lovely seafood platter on the waterfront, we were underwhelmed by the food in Cassis until we found Calendal.

Worth a visit and your pocket won't take a 'waterfront pounding' either.

Salut!
