The welcoming staff is working well so you don't feel you are sitted on a gentle slope;but you are.
The menu is more in the descriptions than in the plates; it's O.K. but it could be better for the offering and the prices that are coming with it. We where told it's the best reataurant in Cassis
for sea food; It is not; I have eaten in a restaurant , for locals where they where no pretention and the food was healthy and fresh.

The menu is at the upper price level in town, unfortunately doesn't the quality match it.
the starter course was way to cold, the main was too fat and filled with sinew and the dessert was a collapsed chocolate cake
- not worth €40,-

I've been visited this restaurant at Sunday, because other was fully booked. The cusine could be described as "a mule who want to be the horse". Instead of fair cooking fish or clams they try to do something special. But - it's too much. probably the best is traditional "soup de poisson". only this - if you chose it, prepare for the big one.

Summer time is usually a terrible period to enjoy Assistant and its restaurants
Gilbert is usually beyond Cassis average experience only in summer when crowd assails the place
Put it in perspective little fish remains in the sea and too many, people, too, much taxes to hire people and too many customers
Come in winter and you, will have a.different, experience

Four of us had lunch here and while my 3 dining companions had the 32 euro fixed menu or ordered from the carte, I had a bouillabaisee which came in at 50 euros. This may seem expensive at first glance but it is about standard in this area for a proper rendition, which if genuine must contain a number of particular species of fish. As it happens, some of these are becoming increasingly expensive. The restaurant is a member of the Le Charte de la Bouillabaisse Marseillaise, which is dedicated to preserving the traditional and correct version (bouillabaisse is not simply a soup made from any old available fish, which other cheaper places may have you believe). It was marginal value at 50 euros, but was certainly filling and tasty. Service was quite acceptable for a restaurant along the tourist strip and I don't agree that it is a tourist trap, as the standard of fittings and glassware is better than its competition. Several of my dining companions spoke excellent French and engaged with the staff, which may have helped our experience. The wine list is acceptable and the local Domaine de Paternel rose is perfect with this style of cuisine. We paid the bill exactly as presented, without any comment or complaint from the staff. French restaurants include the service charge in the bill so adding 10%, as another reviewer has commented, is naive and not required.
