“The one and only place to eat in Cassis”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We spent two days in Cassis and tried three different restaurants: the first one was so bad we sent our food back and left, the second one was only marginally better (i.e. a little bit less bad) but then we discovered "Le Bonaparte". Absolutely charming service, wonderful food - they sure know how to cook their fish and seafood! The whole experience was just as a restaurant visit is supposed to be but what you find less and less in the South of France. "Au Bonaparte" as it is actually called is a restaurant that we cannot recommend highly enough and were will will go back asap.

“Lucky Find for Late Dinner in Cassis”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We had attempted to get to Cassis earlier in the day (Friday 3 May) but the traffic was horrendous so we put it off for a few hours and when we arrived late in the evening we found it very hard to find a place to park, was breathalysed by the local traffic cops, and finally eventually and thankfully wound up at this restaurant which made all the hassle worthwhile and isn't that what travel is all about - the challenge and the reward? We had a wonderful meal of moules, fish soup, gambas provencale and sea bass - all were flavourful and perfectly cooked. With 50cl of wine, drunk entirely by Joan in case we ran into the local cops again, our bill came to 52 Euro. We were offered Cassis on the house, as it is their local specialty, but we had to decline.

“Loved the owner...and the food was good too!”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Le Bonaparte from the little bowls of olives waiting on the tables, to the presentation of a plate of fresh fish with the explanation of their types and preparation, to the wonderful desserts, to the friendly owner checking on us throughout the meal, and free after dinner drinks. The food was delicious, but the best part was the Moules Marinieres appetizer! Tender mussels topped with a mixture of garlic, butter and parsley. Reminded us of an escargot preparation and was out of this world. We used the unlimited baguette slices to get every last bit of that wonderful topping. The Creme Caramel was wonderful too and was smooth and creamy, exactly what it should be. The only minus was the grilled fish. I had the sea bass and it tasted great, but every single bite had at least one bone in it. My partner had the sea bream and it had bones, but not as many, maybe every other bite. If it weren't for the grilled fish, we would have easily given this place a 5 rating. Go and order something else and you won't regret it! Make a reservation...it was packed soon after opening for dinner!

“Worth finding for the food and great value”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

You have to search a bit for this great little restaurant and booking is advised in the summer season. We have eaten there several times and have always enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance. Lunchtimes are busy but the service is always quick and friendly and the fish dishes are excellent. Owner makes sure all diners are well looked after - can't wait to visit again!
