Since we were traveling with three additional couples on a Celebrity cruise, we secured a private van through Catherine D’Antuono of provence-travel.com rather than traveling on the tour buses through the Celebrity tours.
We were met at the cruise port near Toulon by Em, a women in her late 20s as Catherine was working with another group. During the one hour drive to Aix, Em shared that she had grown up around Aix and had gone to university in there as well.
While sightseeing-wise Aix in my opinion, did not have much to offer, it is a lovely clean provincial city that afforded us the opportunity to visit a Farmer’s Market and mingle with the locals which was a lovely way to spend the day.
Em also arranged for lunch (at our own expense) at a small local restaurant that did not appear to cater to tourists. This was a nice opportunity to experience local cuisine.
Prior to returning to the ship, we did visit a local winery near Aix.
If traveling with a larger group or in an effort to avoid crowds, this tour company provided a lovely way to see Aix.
