My wife and I ate there last week, after reading all of the great reviews on this site. I was a little disappointed overall by our evening there, by the food as well as the selection. When we went to order, we were told that a lot of the daily specials were already out (2 of the appetizers, 1 of the entrees and 2 of the desserts were no longer available) - most of those were items we were planning to order initially.

I ordered the foie de lotte (monkfish liver) and did not like the taste of it at all. I've had monkfish liver before and enjoyed it, but this one tasted off. My wife ordered the caillettes, and did not like the consistency of those too much either. The entrees were ok, but not more. Maybe we did not order the right dishes... Service was excellent, however.

Great fish soup and very homely. You feel very at home in this place and the food is exceptional. If you are in the area its a must you try it and the prices are very reasonable

Went to this restaurant during our first night in Fontvieille after checking reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere, nice service, great menue with four different main fish dishes from the market. The set menues are good value and if you add two to four Euros you can chose the starter and/or main dish from the local market fish selection. Desserts were great too, especially the "Fraisieres" which was strawberries with vanilla cream and fruit coulis. Highly recommend this restaurant. Lovely!

We ate at L'Oustau Gourmand on our last evening in the area but we wish we had been able to sample their menu before. The food was fresh and extremely good. We chose from one of the set menus which was good value. The puree de cabillaud avec tapenade and the carpaccio de la mer were both exceptional. The owner, who served us, was very pleasant and efficient and she recommended a regional aperitif and digestif. The restaurant is obviously very popular as it soon filled up and the owner was taking numerous bookings for the following evening. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and would love to return to sample the bouillabaisse.

We visited the region in September, 2012 and found L'Oustau Gourmand completely by happenstance. It was getting late and we were hungry... we drove through a few villages seeking a restaurant open. We saw the sign outside and wandered in. The food is superb, and the weather was beautiful, so everyone sat outside in the back courtyard. On this night, they even had live music: a local singing group that was apparently friends' of the owners. The owner is a gracious host, and very accommodating. If you don't speak French well, ask for their English menu, and they did their best to explain everything on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant... well worth the drive, even if you're not near Fontvieille.
