My wife and I had a superb meal in La Grand Comptoir du Cours, which is just now being discovered by the residents of and visitors to Saintes. Located on cour National. I had a plate of assorted charcuterie for an entree and it was just excellent as well as very generous in size with a wide variety of cured and cooked ham as well as pate'. For the main course, I had the magret which was tender and very tasty. The citron tarte meringue I had for dessert was magnificent! I may have two next time. The service was very friendly such that one feels like a repeat customer on the first visit and the decor is very nice indeed - much nicer than the average bistrot. I strongly recommend it either for lunch or dinner (Friday and Saturday only).
