“You won't be disappointed”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

We arrived in Les Sables d'Olonne by chance back in 2009. We have fallen in love with this area and the people and have visited this wonderful hotel now for three years. It's a small hotel situated in the charming little streets, between the sea and the lovely harbour. The husband and wife always welcome us back each year and happily recommend places to eat. When visiting the fanatastic indoor food market we bumped into them and they went out of their way to recommend the stalls to buy fresh produce for a picnic on the beach. The hotel is delightful, full of ambience and spotlessly clean. If visting Les Sables d'Olonne, we woud certianly recommend this hotel; you won't be disappointed.

We have just spent two wonderful weeks at this centrally placed small character hotel in this very french seaside resort. The husband and wife owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. The decor was very interesting and the breakfast always good. We were even offered different types of french bread fresh from the "boulangerie" to try out by our generous "patron".
All for reasonable rates. If you want a real French experience try it.

Wonderful small hotel in back streets near to everything. Small room but ambience more than made up for it - good recommendations for evening meal. But the main feeling was of being in France, not in a hotel chain. Spotlessly clean and relaxed buffet breakfast. We got a free parking spot but doubt it would be so easy in high season. Were made to feel very welcome. Rooms 4-7 on second floor, up lovely (steep) wooden staircase.

We spent 2 nights in this hotel, based on it being in most guides. The room was lovely, tiny, but nicely decorated. The location is great, in the middle of town, walking distance to beach and old town, and buy shopping area. But what killed it for me was how thin the walls were. Granted, I am a very light sleeper, and my fiance wasn't as bothered as I was. But I could hear everything the neighbours were saying, and was disturbed by people going up and down the stairs.
That being said, service is fantastic, and price really good.

Maison Richet is an excellent place to stay. You are made to feel welcome, the couple who run it are friendly and have a good sense of humour. They work very hard, we stayed for three nights and the rooms and building were spotless. Breakfasts were good.

The location of the hotel gives it character, 2 mins from the beach but within the old quarter, close to the church and boutiques. You feel that you have visited France not a commercial operation.

Extra touches like special perfume, the artwork and interesting ornaments help make this hotel a cut above the rest.

Their english was good enough and their easy manner helped.

  • Liked — friendly, clean, character of building and owners
  • Disliked — some walls a bit thin

We found this hotel on the www and decided to stay there for our overnight stop during our journey back from holidays on the France/Spain border to the UK.

We contacted the hotel by phone and paid up front for a family room (2 double beds) by credit card. Credit card receipt and confirmation subsequently arrived by snail mail.

When we arrived, we found a delightful little hotel in a side street located in the middle of the town, mid way between the beach (one side) and the fishing harbour (other side).

Run by a husband and wife team, we were warmly welcomed and when we asked for suggestions for restaurants for our evening meal, we were asked if we wanted beachside or harbourside. When we said beachside, they made their recommendation (a great little spot with the waves only a few feet away), we accepted and they phoned a reservation through. All part of the service and we were given a door access keypad number, so that we could let ourselves back in after hours if needed.

During the conversation, our five year old daughter had spotted the bowl of sweets on the reception desk and whispered to me if she could
have one. The proprietors picked up on this and encouraged her to take a handful - very family friendly people!

The reception area and breakfast room are full of visual curiosities,
including a collection of globes of the earth and a number of interesting (and very good) paintings by the husband.

Breakfast was comprehesive in the continental style - juices, cereals, fruit, bread or toast, jams and a choice of coffee, tea or (I think) hot chocolate. We were also intoduced to the hotel cat - who is white and his name is Barry (Barry White - get it?).

In summary I would highly recommend this hotel.

Plus points:-

Central Location
Clean and friendly
Comfortable rooms
Good selection of breakfast foods.
Wireless internet access (didn't I mention this yet?)
Nothing seems to be too much effort

Negative points:-

Parking. Not an issue for us because we were gone the next day, but for a longer stay I am not sure where one would get long stay parking.
Language. I have only spoken with them in French. So I do not know if
they speak English.
