Review of Le Petit Baigneur - CLOSED

Was just over to northern France for the long weekend and stopped by what appeared to be a highly rated restaurant in Calais before proceeding to our destination further inland. Ordered the white wine mussels and a calzone. What we got was a 4 cheese pizza (incorrect order) and a portion of Miniature mussels. So let’s start with the pizza , I can forgive the fact that the order was incorrect because it was so bad that no matter what toppings they put on it would still yield the same outcome. The base is as thick as my shoe sole and the cheese was like a fleece, it basically was a glorified cheese and tomato sandwich on thick bread- in terms of bang for buck, yes it surely was filling (because it was so thick) but in no means anywhere close to what a pizza should be. Now come the mussels, hardly any “sauce” to dip our pizza bread and the mussels were the size of a teaspoon, it also felt like they spilt a herb jar over the pot as it was coated when it arrived on the table. March should still be in season for mussels and I can assure you that a London based Tescos would sell larger mussels compared this supposed seaside town. Taste wise- so so . Left half the pizza and the mussels left my partner hungry.
Luckily there was a Kfc down the road which meant we could top up our stomachs before beginning our road trip.
One plus point was parking was plentiful and free but that’s more to do with the area than the restaurant itself.

Love this place as it's easy to park near by,great view of the sea and all the boats n ships going to n from port or just passing,
Food was great too very tasty.the wife and I both had veel a glass of wine each and coffee and cost us less then 31 euros. The owner who served us was very welcoming and helpful.if we go back into calais again we would happily eat here again too

We arrived as a large group of several families together, the owner very quickly got a table arranged for us and welcomed us warmly. He was patient as it took us a while to order and sort out what the children wanted. He remained attentive but not overwhelming throughout the meal.
Food arrived quite quickly (especially given the size of the order) and it was tasty and well cooked. The size of the dishes was pleasing after a walk along the beach.
Worked out at about 12 euros each for a main and a drink, which seemed reasonable to us- certainly cheaper than many other places we had seen. As with so many nice French restaurants, the focus is on good, plentiful food at a decent price- not fancy chairs or lighting. We’d be pleased to visit again.

Went on the strength of reviews, was disappointed! Easy place to find and park, the staff were very friendly, but I have to my food very mediocre, the fries tasted like they had been cooked in old oil! And the salad very limp, my partner loved her Welsh rarebit and liked the staff, but i won't be going back!

It took a little while to find this seaside bistro, as there are rejuvenation works going on. So glad we found it! Mussels, snails and veil were consumed and thoroughly enjoyed! The 'Patron' was so welcoming! It was a perfect place to soak up a bit of 'French'!! I would certainly recommend going!
