Excellent ferry service, nice clean interior with very comfy chairs and sofas to relax. The foodhall serves nice meals at reasonable prices. The breakfasts are lovely. There is a well stocked shop on board with wine, beer, perfumes, jewellery and lots more.

The port of Dover ferry terminal is not for the faint-hearted so if you are taking your car to Calais please allow sufficient time for the formalities. The 90-minute crossing is ok; there are numerous restaurants, bars, toilets, slot machines and places to sit down and nap.

It is possible to go out on deck in sheltered spots and get some fresh air which is really a good idea in almost any sort of weather but most passengers stay inside. You must get out of your car, you can't just stay there and sleep at the wheel.

P & O is a very experienced shipping line and their ferry service reflects that fact.

Travelled over to Calais on pride of Kent, spirit of France,Spirit of Britain, pride of Cantebury and pride of Burgandy. The more modern ships are the Spirit. During peak season they can get quite full of coach party's or school children ( some of who are loud and boisterous out of excitement but can be annoying ) plenty of eating places ,decent bar, arcades etc. They all have decent restraunts which are pleasant,a little over priced but nice food and most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

I travelled with my wife on the "Spirit of Kent" from Dover to Calais and my we never want to set foot on it again..it was like a cattle truck with a strong smell of diesel it was clearly a tired old ferry and needed to be scrapped...it was dirty and unloved we struggled to find anywhere comfortable to sit and the whole trip was a unpleasant experience.
