“Very Good choice of Vino”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

We usually go to Calais Wine Store but thought we'd try here this time. Thought there was a far better selection of French wines, and the cheaper ones were really good. Got a good few bottles for less than 5 euros each. There's also a large choice of beers here.

Staff all friendly with good English.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

fantastic choice at very good prices.
staff is very helpfull and friendly... The store is clean.
Good tasting room with people able to advise you according your taste.

for them....wine is not a question of price but a question of taste....that makes the difference with the other wine stores i've visited before.

“Try your wine first and buy it afterwards ! awesome for the second time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

we had been here last year and we were very happy with the prices first and secondly with the opportunity to try a bit of every wine on offer. I had to try few before I committed myself but it was great and now gone back again this week for the second time. We got 3 litres of spanish great wine for less then 6 pounds or 7 euros and few other bottles for the special occasions. try it asap.....http://www.calaiswine.co.uk and look for the offers : have fun . carlo

“Wine buying in Calais”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013

We popped across the channel this week to stock up on wine as the kids have drunk us dry, but how Calais has changed. Gone are the gaudy signs and dusty warehouses and comparatively few GB stickers compared to the last time I was there about 4 years ago.

After a general drive around we plumped for an old haunt Calais Vins, and what a pleasant surprise. The range of French wines is broad from good value everyday to some quite serious stuff, but we wanted a red and white with some character and didn't want to spend any more than €5 per bottle. All the staff were smiling and friendly and especially Stephane who opened 5 different bottles for us to taste without hesitation.

In the end we plumped for La Perriere Sauvignon Blanc at €4.95 and a Cotes du Rhone at just €3.95. He also persuaded us to go for their own brand Olivier Lacour Vin de Pays d'Oc wines which at €3.50 were most impressive, especially the Merlot and Chardonnay. Jerome the owner has invested heavily in a new boulangerie selling freshly baked goodies and the new Philippe Olivier (of Boulogne fame) cheese franchise means you can buy du vin, du pain and du boursin all under the same roof.

All in all a great day out with a fabulous seafood lunch in the centre of town to round it off before drive back home. Thanks to all who helped us and we can highly recommend this store to discerning wine buyers.
