Initial appearances can be deceptive. On the one hand, the location does not look great, but it is at least close to some good restaurants and bars, etc.
On the other hand, the entrance hall looks quite grand, but the rooms are a bit of a let down. Very quirky, old fashioned, but not in a good way.
There is no air conditioning and windows were a bit difficult to manage. Early morning seagulls will ensure no lie-ins.
Staff seemed friendly enough.

We only booked for one night on our way to Paris, but, frankly, we would like to have stayed longer. We found our stay to be excellent value. The room was quaint and a bit quirky; not luxury but not a high price either. The staff were courteous and attentive. We spent a pleasant evening in the bar, unwinding after a long drive. The buffet breakfast is excellent.

Room Tip: Perhaps pay a little extra for an upgrade

Don't be seduced by the lovely entrance hall and sweeping staircase. The 'superior' room we had displayed amazing DIY incompetence. see photos. They had built a wall half way across the electrical fusebox. The shower grouting was pink and alive with bacteria. Alex Polizzi would have a field-day here! Breakfast was quite good but in a horrible room. The secure parking is underneath the hotel and cluttered with rubbish and the owner's old cars. Our advice is to try the Mercure round the corner. We haven't stayed there but it can't be worse. Would I stay at the Meurice again? Erm.....no!
Even better advice about Calais: Don't bother searching for the delights of Calais because there's only one. That's the Town Hall clock-tower, which is magnificent. No wonder so many people are trying to leave Calais. So drive another hour and find somewhere nicer.

Room Tip: Drive another hour and go somewhere else.

This hotel is not perfect, but for an overnight stay or a weekend break you could do a lot worse. The rooms and bathrooms are old fashioned and there is no air-conditioning, but it is of a grand style with plenty of quirky artworks and antique furniture. Breakfast is very generous for France and lots of Brits stay here. It is good value for money and I will be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first and second floor have a lift to get you there, and an impressive staircase if you feel like walking down.

We are now regular clients to the hotel Meurice as it is an ideal stopover on the way back to the uk.

It is near the euro tunnel and the ferry crossing and we even stay there when we take the Dunkerque crossing.

The first attraction was the secure underground parking. Although there is plenty of street parking around the hotel we feel more secure having the car safely locked in the garage as we can leave all luggage and shopping in the boot and back seat without any worry for a very small cost £5.

The hotel has an old fashion charm, the staff most pleasant and helpful, the room clean and comfortable with desk, armchair, coffee making facilities and free wifi. The bed is extremely comfy with good quality bed linen.

Our room was on the ground floor this time, overlooking the little garden, very quiet and peaceful and we had shutters on the windows which not only block out the light but any noise too. We had a very good night sleep and next morning enjoyed the self service breakfast which was very good.

The hotel is in a peaceful location but only a couple of minutes walk to the Rue Royale and the Place d'Armes where there are numerous restaurants, cafes and bars.

We usually pay in £ as we get a better deal : room with full English breakfast was £70 plus £5 for garage.
