Charming French Hotel. Free street parking right in front of hotel. Easy walk to are sites and restaurants. Cozy little bar. Great breakfast in a bright and pleasant solarium overlooking the garden/courtyard. Room was small by American standards. Limited outlets in room. Overall, we like this hotel and would return.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor overlooking the garden/courtyard. We liked this room.

We stayed at Hotel Meurice for the night of the 3rd April 2014. We were not expecting much as most hotels around ports are not great, however, we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel probably might need a refurb in parts but we had a good room, bathroom with a great bath and shower, loads of hot water and shower gel. The towels were spotless. Our bed was clean and comfy. Would not hesitate to use Hotel Meurice again after a late arrival in Calais.

The interior of this hotel is beautiful with old style furniture and gorgeous staircase. We stayed for only one night and were treated very well. The ground floor room requested on-line was reserved for us and was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was much more than expected. The freshly squeezed orange was lovely. Our daughter had stayed at The Meurice last year and said how wonderful the staff were with children. We were travelling with an 85 year old and they were equally helpful and attentive. Such a lovely place with helpful and friendly staff. We were travelling onwards to Belgium to Leper - had I known how nice our stay at The Meurice was going to be we would have stayed for the 3 nights we were away and driven in each day.

Room Tip: We had ground floor rooms due to travelling with an older couple and the room was lovely. Tea and co...

The context was a booze cruise with one night in Calais for a decent meal and a bit of France.
The Meurice in the middle of old Calais was really good. It's French and it's not a chain. Yes, there's a look of faded glory, but our room was spacious, warm and clean and the en-suite facilities were fine. The beds were very good and the room really quiet at night. Breakfast is a good buffet - plenty of choice. It's not haute cuisine but it's still good.
The staff are friendly and not over-anglicised, as you find in some of the more tourist places, though as a gesture towards the many English who stay there, tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms. It probably helps if you speak a little French though they do understand some English. Parking is easy in the street outside and there is a little market nearby on Saturdays.

Tired of the same modern chains? The Meurice is the opposite - full of character but with a décor that was probably upmarket in the '60s but now looking very tired. We were upgraded for reasons unknown and the room was spacious with an entrance lobby, large bathroom and separate wc. You could have fitted a small bed into the built in wardrobe - unfortunately, it was difficult to get to for furniture. Similarly, the coffee/tea making equipment was hiding behind the television.
The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom and toilet spotless. Parking is easy and free on the street and it is in walking distance of anywhere in Calais, so you can go out for a meal without a designated driver to bring you home. The staff were friendly.

Room Tip: Our upgraded room on the second floor was much more spacious than our friends standard.

Booked this hotel last minute by looking on laterooms.com and reading the reviews, we have done many quick trips to France and this hotel is by far the best we have used. The room was lovely (we had a standard room), extremely quiet at night, breakfast was more than we usually get in France, bacon scrambled eggs and sausage plus all the usual from a continental breakfast. We were 100 yards from the main street in the center of Calais and used a recommended restaurant from the hotel staff. Just a perfect weekend totally enjoyed everything and will definetely use this hotel again

Booked for one night before we travelled further into France. The staff speak English if you want. It is an old hotel that had been refurbished in the 1940's. The rooms are all different giving it a boutique style feel. There was a large amount of antique furniture in the halls giving a lived in feel to the hotel. Beds and rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and surprisingly there was bacon sausage and egg available too.
Disappointingly the restaurant was not open during our visit, so we had to go into Calais to eat. Not a problem as there are lots of restaurants to choose from.
We returned from the meal and went into the bar and had a nightcap. The dog Lol was very happy to see us and wanted to play.
One of the best sights in the hotel are the wash hand basins outside the washrooms. They are stunning.
Would happily stay here again.
