“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We stayed here for one night. It doesn't look much from outside but is beautiful inside. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable. We wanted to eat in the restaurant but were told it was full! There are plenty of restaurants a few minutes' walk away. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed a night after arriving on the ferry from Dover. The taxi driver...who also picked us up in the morning was such a warm and friendly man! Very helpful! The hotel is well located to the Main Street and we had a fabulous meal on the main road. The hotel was old and a bit tired but had character. Bed was really comfy but window did not open enough to let air in..no aircon as is usual in Europe , so was quite hot at night. Some repairs need to the bath room but rate was ok...breakfast a little expensive. Lovely food and very friendly staff but room a bit small. Enjoyed our brief stay.

We stayed here for two night, had a lovely stay. It is a grand hotel, easy to find but with a fantastic amount of old furniture. Beds were super soft, slept like a baby! Window was very close to the street outside which had a light which proved irritating as the curtains didn't close fully.
Breakfast was lovely with plenty there although as everyone was doing the buffet breakfast in a small conservatory, it was very cramped.
Staff were lovely, even put up with our lack of french!
A nice stay, would recommend for a long weekend.

Room Tip: We got our room last minute online, made the price and what you got much better value!

With it being a long drive from Charente-Maritime to Cheshire we decided to split the journey and stop in Calais. This is just how you expect an old fashioned French hotel to be - the family room was quite large, with a curtained off area separating the children's room, so some privacy was had. And there was a wonderful deep bath.

The bar was well stocked, and inexpensive by French standards, and room service appeared to be good value for money, although we chose to wander into Calais for a meal.

Breakfast looked expensive though.

Very convenient for the Tunnel, and we arrived home on the Sunday without that zapped out feeling.

Oh, and look out for the crazy dog.

There was nothing in particularly wrong with the hotel. It is however tired and dull.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

The breakfast room is too small and as with nearly every hotel in Europe the cost of breakfast is verging on extortion for what they offer.

Walk to a local patisserie buy a couple of croissants and get a take away coffee. This will come in at about 6 - 8 € at least half what you pay for breakfast.

The hotel is only ten minute walk from the town centre where there are plenty of places to eat.

We were woken in the morning with a wake up call, however, we did not book an early wake up call.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are similar and we were not disturbed by noise during the evening.

A restored old hotel full of antiques but beginning to show its age . There are places you see that need a bit of paint but for the most part it is well preserved and clean.
The rooms are small and a bit overdone as befits a hotel in the 1920s.
The breakfast is in a very modern room and is excellent .

We stopped at this hotel for a short break. In common with most visitors to France we normally just travel through Calais. This time we decided to stop and visit and found Calais and the Hotel very nice for a short visit. We found the hotel to be very pleasant and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed very nice breakfasts on both mornings and staff were very quick in replenishing the food. I would visit again for a short break or overnight stay.
