We stay at the Cottage Hotel two or three times a year en route from the Pays Basque to Oxford.
The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable: ideal for a night's stopover but insufficient for a longer stay.
The decor and general appearance is now looking a little tired. Time for renovation!

We used this hotel after travelling on the Eurotunnel and before the 8 hour drive to stay with my brother in Southern France. The cost was very reasonable compared to English equivalents. It is in a perfect spot for the tunnel and for our needs. It was a clean and comfortable room with coffee and tea making facilities and TV. There was ample space for clothes etc. The plumbing was a little noisy and perhaps the rooms are ready for a facelift, but not bad enough to stop us using it again. The staff spoke excellent English and were very polite and helpful. We dined at the restaurant and were pleased with the selection and presentation of the food. We also used this hotel on our return journey but dined next door as the restaurant did not open until 7p.m. Would recommend this place to anyone for short stays.

For about the past 5 years we have been to Calais in December for Christmas shopping. We always stay at this hotel and have always been impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the price for a room. The rooms aren't large but are more than adequate for a few nights stay. Good location being just 10 minutes drive from Cite Europe and the Channel Tunnel terminal. The menu in the restaurant isn't large but more than enough to choose from for a few nights. Free parking and free wi-fi, what more could you want. We will certainly be staying there again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the rear of the hotel are quieter. We have had rooms at the front before, and although...

Second time we've stayed here for shopping at Cité Europe. The rooms are small but the beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of British TV and radio. The the restaurant menu is fairly limited, as you would expect from a small 'stayover' hotel but the food is excellent. On each occasion we've been impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

We will definitely be staying here again.

OK, so it's not new and modern and could do with a complete makeover - BUT it isn't expensive and has all you need for a quick stopover before crossing back to the UK so why are some of you moaning about this place? The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms were fine and very clean too. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Easy access to the A16 makes this place perfect. Close enough to the Cite de Europe for you to do your shopping before heading home. If I had to make a negative comment it would be to ask for a new, more obvious sign outside to make it more obvious to see from the road. I passed it first time around! :)

Room Tip: Perfect for easy access to the A16 and the Channel Tunnel!

We visited Calais for a one day stopover to do xmas shopping, booked the hotel because it came across exactly what we were looking for.But to our shock I have never been so disappointed in such a place,so drab it felt as if it had been left behind in the olden days,it most certainly could do with a damn good lick of paint and up to date decoration. It reminded me of an old age pensioners complex-the smell, the décor,it just wasn,t right.
We went to the bar, only to find one member of staff who was to busy to serve us,so summoned another member of staff who was also doing nothing apart from waiting to serve customers food, after being served, another shock was the price of the beer(8.20 euros for a pint and a half of Heineken).I know the price of the hotel was cheap but don,t take the micky !!!!!!!
If the hotel as got one thing going for it,it is its location to the shopping mall and the Eurotunnel and ferry terminal.
I certainly won,t recommend this hotel to anyone,I would spend that little bit extra and get a hotel that is worthy of staying......

Room Tip: TIP-book another hotel!!!!!!

We had to find a place to stay at short notice in Calais as we were unable to get on the shuttle we had booked because our dog had not taken the required tablets in time.

The Cottage Hotel was close by and very welcoming - we were also lucky to be able to have the 'suite' which comprises two double rooms adjoining (with shared shower room). The hotel also has a bar and restaurant, in which they were happy for us to sit with our dog.

Although the hotel looks a bit tired from the outside, the room was clean and cosy with lovely crisp sheets, towels, soaps and tea/coffee making faciltiies. Breakfast seemed expensive to we opted out - the evening meal was tasty but again a bit over priced, but that seems to be France these days!

Room Tip: Four of us shared the suite which made it cheaper and gave us space to spend time together in the ev...
