“GOOD VALUE”
Reviewed April 19, 2011

We changed our normal hotel, and on this trip stayed overnight on the outward and return journey at the Cottage, based upon the reviews of previous travellers.
The observations and opinions were just about right, a 2 * hotel, on a busy, but reasonably quite road, easy to find. A walk in the evening is difficult due to its location.
It does need a make over, the rooms are tidy, and clean, but the decor requires upgrading, the rooms are not the largest, and the bathroom is particulalry small.
It does however offer value, in as much that there is a very reasonable menu for dinner at about 15 euro's, which does avoid the problem of motoring into the city, and being able to enjoy a drink with the meal. The breakfast choice is also satisfactory..
We would return subject to obtaining a reasonable room rate. With so much choice available this hotel is a 50 euro's rate, and not into the 60's/70's range.
All of its business is travellers passing through Calais, and this reflects in the general condition of the hotel, but the staff are friendly, helpfull, and we would probably return. .

Room Tip: Request a rear room, less noise.

Stopped overnight following a 2 week holiday and 10 hr drive from Spain.

Good: Staff very friendly and spoke good English which was handy as our French is poor. Had food at the attached restaurant which was very good value for 13 euro. Very good location for tunnel and ferry port if driving. Totally suited us as a quiet nights stopover prior to the tunnel crossing.
OK: Rooms dated but very clean. Location may not suit everybody as there are hotels in central Calais (even through there is not much in central Calais-we had a look)
Poor: Corridor smelt of stale smoke (but room was fine)

We stayed in this hotel in order to see family in France

It is a very pleasent hotel and most of the staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Parking in front of the hotel is a bonus

The food served in the restaurant was okay, but probably better to eat out

We would stay here again

Have just returned from a long weekend at this hotel, i travelled with my son and grandson
age 7. We enjoyed our stay very much. The room was rather small, but we did have a
extra bed for the child. Everything was clean and the staff friendly and very helpfull. We
enjoyed our meals in the resturant and felt it was good value for the price we paid. If i could
suggest some improvements i think perhaps duvets in the bedrooms would be much better
and if they have to use plastic cups in the bedrooms for drinks, then larger ones would be
more suitable. I would use this hotel again and recommend it to my friends. Some of the
reviews i have read are very unfair it does state quite clearly that only one extra bed can be
fitted in to a room and if you could not have a good breakfast then you could not have looked
very hard as there was a good selection and lots of it.

I stopped here for one night in a snowstorm and was ever so glad I did. A really friendly and warm hotel, not fancy but tremendous value for money. The rooms are big, the bathrooms are spotless with great showers, and there's a massive great car park which was a relief after driving through snow drifts. The restaurant is OK -- you can eat better in Calais but it's fine if you're tired and hungry. The same goes for breakfast, which costs extra ... you can get a better baguette and coffee in the town centre, but it's perfectly adequate if you haven't got the time (or can't be bothered) to drive somewhere else. Just right for a night or two if you're driving through or on a shopping trip, and heaps better than any of the other motels in the area. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby and restaurant too.
