“Stunning”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Fantastic sculpture by Rodin. The sensitivity and power of this work is timeless. Calais hasn't got loads of attractions so you have to see this, the Town Hall and the beach! Simple as that! :)

“Very moving tale of the Burghers.”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Incredible Rodin piece and easily accessible from the Port of Calais. When I was there in January, the information board was a little beat up but still readable. Set in beautiful gardens with a parking lot nearby.

“The original !”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

In 1347 six Calais burghers volunteered to sacrifice themselves to surrender to Edward III and save the besieged city (they were eventually saved upon an intervention by Queen Philippa). There exist several copies of Rodin's 1895 sculpture (one of which stands in Westminster), but of course this is where the monument really belongs. It is very conveniently displayed so that visitors can view it from every angle.
