The beach at Calais is very clean, get there early and watch the mussle pickers collecting bucketfuls.

Toilets near by and plenty of snack bars and restaurants

Lovely white beach which stretches out along the coast. It has wonderful views of the ferries day and night. Where we stayed was in a residential area which may put people off. However it did not deter from our pleasure. All we saw was tourist and French families enjoying themselves.

we had a look at the beach last week and it was lovely. very clean and was quite long. the ice cream vans were superb had an amazing ice cream and wasn't badly priced. you can just about see the white cliffs on a clear day.

If you decide on the spur of the moment to take a ferry to Calais - other than "don't do it" the best advise would be to take your beach things. We decided to take a day trip (still not sure why - possibly memories from childhood!) other than sitting quietly watching the world go by from one of the cafes in the town, the best bit of our visit was the beach - amazingly large, beautiful sand and on a sunny day you could believe you were many miles further south. Watching the ferry's coming and going between Dover and the port of Calais as you sit on the clear pale sands seemed quite surreal.

And if you do splash out as a foot passenger on a P&O ferry - well worth paying for the club lounge - the champagne alone makes it value for money and the quite relaxed atmosphere beats mingling with the great unwashed on the other decks!

A beautiful clean long beach with lots of places to eat from chips to haut cuisine. Toilets are only open in season but eating places have toilets. The sea front has had a revamp so its safer than ever for children. My only gripe is the pavements and dropped pavements are not very wheelchair or mobility scooter friendly and often in the wrong place, too high or not there at all. I suppose no worse than most of France but disappointing all the same. A lovely free afternoon for a nice day on a trip across the channel.
