We live in Gent, Belgium and had to take our son to catch a ferry in Calais. We decided to leave enough time for a meal beforehand. After looking at reviews on Tripadvisor we chose l'Ardoise. We couldn't have chosen better! The welcome was warm and inviting. The menu had enough choices and the price/quality ratio was superb. A tapenade de la maison with fresh French bread was brought to the table while we made our choices. Our starters at only €5 (fried Camembert and fish soup) were beautifully served and the taste was superb. For mains (all under €20) we had duck, lamb and fish brochette. Again, beautifully presented, very tasty and plenty of it. We couldn't resist desserts and their café gourmand at €5 gave us coffee and three different desserts. We left after paying less than €90 for three of us including drinks. We will definitely return and will plan ferries taking meal times into consideration in future. There is an added bonus of being able to park on the Place des Armes in front of the restaurant.
