I really liked this restaurant for its service and atmosphere and for some of its food. But for us the excellent cooking is let down by the balance of the dishes. We chose a crab bisque for starters and the flavour was excellent, however it was a very large bowl and accompanied by cheese on toast on skewers. The combination of flavour was lost on us and made it a very rich starter. For my main course I had the Confit of Duck. It was probably my fault for choosing two very rich dishes but this turned out to be a confit of duck leg then grilled which had the effect of crispy duck without the spice. On its own this would have been fine, perhaps with a salad or some light sauce, but it was accompanied by potatoes dauphinoise with cheese and a tarragon cream sauce. All together it didn't work as a dish but each element was really well cooked and excellent in its own right.
We choose from the al a carte menu because the set menu at 29 Euros didn't have a great choice and two out of the four main courses had a 5.90 euro supplement as had a couple of the starters. I really don't like set menus with supplements its either an inclusive price or its not. Looking around the restaurant everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and mine was the only half eaten food I saw, so it may be that I just chose badly on the menu. The service was excellent and the staff genuinely concerned that I returned food, so it is certainly a place I would try again.
