Description: Histoire Ancienne restaurant in Calais is a classic bistro with 1930s art deco dcor, fresco painting that recalls Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha prints, traditional zinc bar, tables laid in white linen, harlequin floor and open fireplace where local fish and meats are grilled. So far, so intriguing. Patrick Comte is a fourth-generation chef who trained in some of Paris most superb restaurants, including Le Crillon and Prunier, and here uses the finest local ingredients in inventive dishes like duck tartare with comfit tomatoes and parmesan shavings, grilled sea bream marinated in lemon, coriander and ginger. Order the warm chocolate cake with molten interior with pistachio cream at the beginning of your meal. Theres a proper vegetarian menu, too.

“The perfect lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

Following some reviews already given for this delightful little very traditional French restaurant, we decided to find it and try it!! We were not disappointed, the food, the service the atmosphere was to a very high standard. A light bite it is not, it's really more a gourmet experience, but a perfect lunch it was. The prices were not high, they were very reasonable, but what else would you expect from a place that is full to the seams of locals from all walks of life. It is definitely a place we will visit again.

“Amazing Restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

Brilliant atmosphere, wonderful staff and amazing food! We had made a reservation, which was fortunate as the restaurant was full, we were short of time because of a ferry booking but the staff were amazing at getting our food to us quickly and arranging a taxi to the ferry terminal. The food was fantastic and there was a very broad choice. Will definitely visit again!

“Very good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

Very good food with nice service and not expensive, for a Wednesday night it was reasonably busy with quite a few reserved signs on tables for later diners with quite a few locals in so that was a good sign, the food did not disappoint and had quite a good range of food on offer from traditional French cooking to more contemporary dishes.
Well worth a try if staying in Calais.

“Very good - deserves its high TA rating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Webt with a colleague and my wife and we all enjoyed good French food at a relatively affordable price for the region. Though the menu is short, there is enough to satisfy most. The food is well-prepared and the service is good. We go back now and then and have always been satisified.

“Last meal in France”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We went to lunch here today - our last day in France. We certainly didn't expect such a wonderful experience. The food was superb and such good value especially when compared to Australian prices. We had a leisurely lunch which was what we wanted. We have found that sometimes in France the courses comes a little too quickly. We will certainly visit this restaurant again if we are ever in Calais.
